"My journey through life was one hell of a rollercoaster. You know, when you think that life has given you a lot of crap continuously so you reach a point where you are like 'This is it. There's nothing worse than what happened.' but then life comes and gives you its final blow and kills you," I paused and moved my eyes over the blurry, small frames my mind created around me.
They played different parts of my life over and over again. One, in particular, caught my eye. A video of me and my whole family in our last Christmas together. We were huddled around the tree, opening the gifts and laughing at the silly ones and gushing over the ones we loved.
"It's like drowning." I blinked and they disappeared, "The moment you drown, you think that the suffocation couldn't get worse; you feel that the burning sensation is going to be the knife that pierces your heart and steals you from life, then the waves pushes your body deeper into the ocean, and instead of the water being as light as air, it turns to weights that people carries around. Then the blackness opens its arms and engulfs you.
And that's when a hand reaches out for you; holds you close to a warm body, helps you get back to the surface, conquers the monsters and urges you to fight the blackness. The hero kisses the life back into you and reassures you that the struggle had come to an end. That's life. It's not necessary over when you think it is over. You may think it is over due to what you have been through, but there is almost always light at the end of the dark tunnel-no matter how long the tunnel is, and how it seems like it has no end."
"So your story ended with the happy endings that princesses live through-the ending you wanted," the woman that sat in front of me said.
I smiled and slowly started chuckling, "Oh no, you must have misinterpreted what I said. I'm not a princess or a damsel in distress who is going to be saved by a prince. I had no light at the end of the tunnel. My tunnel fooled me and so did the people. My tunnel didn't lead to light; it led me to an even darker tunnel that had small holes that let in a few specks of light, making me mourn the fact that I will never see it again."
She cocked her head to one side, squinting her eyes, "What do you mean?"
"What you heard was just the first few pages of my story. My story begins with pain and ends with agony, I own no happy endings," I said.
"I own no happy endings," I whispered as the short years I have lived started flashing in front of my eyes.
