Daryl tightened and flexed his fingers over the handlebar grips feelings the wind biting at his skin. Winter was coming and fast. They needed to find a place to settle. They needed something permanent. It wasn't healthy to be out like this always on the run with such a large group. They were running through supplies and gas a lot faster this way.
Two months. Two fucking months since leaving Jays and things were no better. Mac was getting progressively more hostile and Kira kept giving him doe eyes. He knew she was healed up but her almost raped was hitting close to home for him. With the things she had said about her past and the man who had tried more than once to rape her it was all making him feel horrible. Not just horrible but guilt for the way he got with her some times.
Daryl pulled to the side of the road his hand sliding under the leather of his jacket against his stomach. He hadn't swung his leg over knowing Mac and Rick would walk to him. Rick got to him first since Kira was motioning around them and huffing at Mac at the moment. Daryl looked at Rick and he smiled at him and then looked around them.
"What do you think Daryl?"
Daryl stood stretching his back and looked over, "Need to find some place soon."
Rick nodded and looked back at the group, "I agree. Lori is a getting anxious and so is everyone else."
Mac stormed over and shook his head "If we don't find somewhere soon so I can get out of that fucking jeep I'm going to start choking everyone."
Daryl looked around again and Rick started speaking, "Need to go on a run soon. Supplies are low and I think it'd give people the space they need."
Daryl kicked his leg over the bike and Mac stepped next to him immediately. It was their nature to always be close together and didn't even realize it most days. They just naturally shifted towards the other and moved accordingly. Kira was the first person besides Merle to point it out to them. Of course Merle was making smart assed remark but that was Merle.
Thinking of his oldest brother like always caused a pain in his chest and regret. Looking down at the ground his boot scuffed roughly and he cleared his throat. "I'll go hunting."
Rick nodded at him and Mac looked at Daryl as Rick walked away to get the run group ready. "You think it's smart going out alone?"
Daryl locked eyes with Mac and he stepped over to the bike, "Is anything in this fucking world smart to do anymore?"
"DO you have be the asshole? I remember when it was me saying shit to piss you off." Mac snapped.
Kira came into view walking for them and Daryl lowered his eyes causing Mac to growl. He kept trying to catch his eyes but he turned towards the woods. Kira was there now and smiling. She knew something was wrong with him but unlike Mac she was letting it go. She knew him enough to know he had work shit out in his own head. Mac didn't give a fuck though. He was going to pester him till he relented.
"Rick said your hunting. I'm going." Her voice was clear and firm.
That had Daryl looking over and shaking his head, "I need to actually hunt and you there is just going to scare off the game."
"We'll leave Mac...it wont be like last time."
"Oh fuck you both."
Daryl snorted and Kira stepped up to Mac patting his cheek, "Mac I gladly would."
Daryl made a noise in his throat and started walking as Mac cat called and whistled at her. He needed away from these two before they backed him into a corner he was going to have to fuck his way out of. As lewd as it sounded he knew that was what they were up against. Every since watching Mac and her while Rick had him talking to him he hadn't been able to get the image from his head. Her eyes watching him as his brother fucker her. It was sticking in his mind like a drug.
