Chapter 7

"Slow down! Your going to get us killed!" Chris yells at me.

I look down at the speedomater and realize I'm going eighty five in a fifty speed zone. Whoops. Lead foot I guess. Hehe. This is so fun.

"Oh get your panties out of the twist that their in." I say with a smile. Amber, whose in the back seat, giggles at that. This is the second day that I've ever driven. Yesterday Chris showed me all the basics. Today I'm driving us to school.

Chris glares at me as I zoom into the parking lot, almost hitting a few kids who had the unfortunate luck of getting in my way. Whoops. That was a little close.

I park, almost in the yellow lines, and get out of the car.

"Oh my goodness! That was so fun! I'm driving us home, right?" I ask giving him the puppy dog look.

His glare softens. "Maybe." Is all he says.

I smile. That's what he said this morning and I still got to drive to school. Hehe.

Amber and I start talking as we're waiting for the school doors to open. Since I drove so fast we were early. Oh, well. Better than late.

"Soooo."

"So what?" I ask feigning ignorance. I know exactly what she's asking.

"How do you think people will react?"

"I don't know. But I made a promise to myself that I wasn't going to take anybody's shit anymore. So if they piss me off, I'll take 'em out.'' I say holding up my fist, dancing around like a boxer. "Pow." I swing and dance to the left. "Pow, pow, pow." I said, swing my arms around. "Knock out!" I yell. "crowd goes wild!" I do a victory dance.

"When did you become such a dork?" A voice behind me says.

I look over at Chris seeing that he's grinning in amusement. Normally I would probably be embarrassed, to say the least. But now. Eh. Not so much. I don't know where this confidence is coming from, but I definitely like it.

"Since I'm not afraid to be myself." I say back.

The bell rings.

I walk with Amber to my locker. I got my books and started heading to first period. In the class room, the greasy haired skater dude from Friday approaches me.

"Hey there, you new?"

Are you kidding me? Just because I'm wearing a t- shirt and skinny jeans ( Amber's idea, and Amber's clothes) doesn't mean I'm not the same person. Am I new? Really? Butt muncher.

"What's your name sweet cheeks." Another guy said from right in front of me. Seriously? Just because I take off my baggie clothes and put my hair in a pony tail, instead of my usual curtain surrounding my face, doesn't mean I'll take this shit.

"Oh my name is Lena, but you can call me Loner Lena, if you prefer." I said batting my eyelashes. Hehehehehehe. Their expressions were priceless! Knock out! I yell in my head doing an imaginary victory dance. Then the bell rings.

***********************************************************************************************

The whole morning everyone is whispering and pointing to me.

"Who is that?'

"Loner Lena."

"No way!"

"Holy shit! She's hot."

"Dude, look at her rack."

"Damn if I'd known she looked like that under her clothes then I'd definitely would have hit that by now."

"No way."

"Is she new?"

"Mark stop staring at her ass!"

And on and on it went. Girls glared at me, guys had flirty smiles, teachers had heart attacks. Hehe, just kidding. Sort of.

By the time lunch rolled around, I was the center of the whole schools attention. And guess what? Kali did not like that. She was the Queen Bee. She was always the center of attention. Nothing and no one had the guts to steal that away from her. Until, apparently, now.

She glared at me in the halls and every single class we had together, but she had yet to approach me and now I'm wondering why? She had no problem pooping on my heart with her awful words before. Yes she was keeping her distance but if looks could kill, well I would have flopped over without a pulse in first period.

At lunch I sat at the same table I normally do. I'm not the center of attention anymore, thank goodness. The new hot topic was about a senior guy who went ape shit when a sophomore dared to sit in his seat. I guess he asked the sophomore to move and when he didn't he grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and threw him across the room, making him knock into a gaggle of girls coming from the lunch line. Unfortunately for the sophomore one of those girls was Kali, making her tray fall onto her nice white blouse. Her wrath is way more lethal then any senior. Poor guy, he's just having a bad day all around.

I feel someone move into the seat across from me, so I tear my eyes away from the scene and look to find Chris sitting at my table.

"What are you doing?" I ask puzzled by his action.

He just looks at me. "What does it look like?"

"I'm not quit sure at the moment, it's been awhile since anyone has attempted to disobey the queen bee. Sure your ready for the consequences?"

He just looks at me and scoffs. "I was born ready, what you talking about?"

Okay that made me chuckle a little. It was weird having someone to talk to at lunch. Not bad weird, just different. I found myself actually laughing at some of his dorky comments and Star Wars references. I found myself asking how he and Kali ever had a thing.

He gives me a dirty look. "We never had a thing! She wanted to make her ex-boyfriend jealous by my money but I didn't go along with it. I told you not to believe in all the rumors."

That actually explains a lot. Kali always did have a thing for money. Poor Chris. I guess he was just another unlucky soul who got caught in the crossfire that was Kali.
