After an uneventful and extremely dull day, all four of us were sat in our dorm.
"Remus?" James asked.
"Yeah?"
"Are you a cat person or a dog person?" He asked, laughing slightly.
"I think I have to answer dog person, or someone will be upset," I laughed, gesturing to Sirius.
"No, but seriously."
"I actually am a dog person."
I didn't miss the grin on Sirius' face.
"What about you?" I asked James.
"Dog person."
"And you?" I said to Sirius.
He laughed, "Obviously I'm a dog person. Mostly because I literally am a dog person."
We all burst into laughter at that.
"What about you Peter?" Sirius asked, "Dog person or cat person?"
"Well," Peter started, "considering cats like to eat rats, I'm going to go with dog person."
"Dogs eat rats too," James pointed out.
"Well yeah, but cats are more likely to hunt rats aren't they?" Peter said back.
"Fair enough," James laughed.
Sirius seemed pretty happy that all of us were dog people. I mean, it's kind of a given, since his Animagus form is a dog.
"Guys?" I said, rather hesitantly, causing them all to look up at me, "Thank you. You know, for turning into Animagi for me."
"No problem," Peter said.
"Yeah we're just happy it helps you," James added.
Sirius came over and gave me a hug, "Don't thank me. It makes me feel better that I know you're safe."
I smiled and he returned it.
Later on, I was trying to fall asleep. We'd decided to go to sleep a couple of hours ago, however I was yet to fall asleep. I was lying on my back so I could see across the room, this meant that I could see that James and Peter were asleep. When I rolled onto my side to see if Sirius was asleep, I found that he was, in fact, fully awake. After a few seconds he noticed I was looking at him and he smiled.
"Can't sleep?" He asked.
"Yeah."
"Me neither," he told me, even though that was quite obvious.
After a few minutes of silence Sirius spoke again, "Do you want to go and sit in the common room?"
"Yeah," I said standing up.
He got up too and we headed downstairs. The common room was empty, which wasn't really surprising because it was the middle of the night. I sat down on the couch and, instead of going to the other couch like I thought he would, Sirius sat down next to me. He leaned his head on my shoulder and I put my arm around his waist.
"Are you going home for Christmas?" He asked me.
"Christmas is two months away, why do you ask?"
"Because...I'm not. I don't want to go home, for obvious reasons."
He didn't want to go home because his family hated him, for more reasons than he could count. I didn't blame him, I knew his father constantly shouted at him and sometimes even hit him.
"No, I'm not going home." I told him, "you're not staying alone, and my family isn't great either."
My family were pretty much scared of me. They were scared because they didn't know how to handle a werewolf. But, they also acted scared when I was a human, which wasn't a nice thing.
"At least we'll be together," He smiled at me.
"Yeah," I smiled back.
After that we sat in a comfortable silence, we didn't need to say anything else. We just held on to each other.
