I opened the passenger door and sat down. "Hey." I said. He smiled. "You look good." he responded. I blushed and put my seatbelt on. "So where are we going?" I asked. He backed out of my driveway. "Somewhere." he said.
I laughed softly. "So I meet you at a friend's party, you tell me I'm cute, compliment my car, and then you ask me out. And now you won't tell me where we're going?" I asked. He nodded. "Yeah. Pretty much. And by the way, we're going to the pier." he said.
I beamed. "Really? Isn't the firework show tonight?!" He nodded happily. "Yeah, I go every year. But while we're there, we can grab something to eat. I'm paying." he said, sure of himself. "Oh, okay." I responded.
When we got there, Harry came around to my side of the car and he opened the door for me. "Thank you." I said. The corners of his mouth twitched into a smile. He closed the door behind me and fell into step next to me.
"What do you want to do first?" he asked me. I shrugged. "It doesn't matter. Something exciting." I said. He thought for a moment. "Well, we can walk around." he suggested. I nodded and pulled my sweater tighter around me.
It was chilly outside, and I realized that I should have worn a heavier jacket. I tried not to make it obvious that I was cold, so I asked him when One Direction were having their next concert. "In two weeks. We're having a break." he explained.
I listened quietly, because I was shy and I didn't know what to say. But Harry saw right past me. "You're cold, I can tell." he said. I smiled. "I'm fine." I reassured him. He pulled him jacket off and set it over my shoulders. "Thanks." I said, now very warm.
I really liked Harry. He was really sweet. And it didn't bother me that he was in a band, or famous, or had literally every girl in the world falling all over him. Because he chose me. The girl with the yellow punch buggy.
A few hours later, we sat down on the grass beside the pier to watch fireworks. Every year, our city blew off fireworks in the fall. Just because it was nice, starting a new season with happiness. Yeah, I thought it was stupid, even though I came every year with Emma.
Families and couples sat down around us. I turned to look at Harry. "So how come you never talk about the band?" I asked. He smiled. "Because they're not the most important thing right now." he answered. I look at him skeptically. "What's the most important thing?" I wondered.
He leaned in closer to me, so we were inches apart. "Well, at the moment, you." We both smiled. "That sounds promising." I said. He tilted his head to the side. I wanted to kiss him so bad, but I didn't know if he'd want to.
Then the fireworks started and Harry put his arm around me. Different colors lit up the sky and the people around us oohed and aahed. I just snuggled in closer to Harry and thought about how perfect this moment was.
Harry looked down at me and leaned in. I closed my eyes and leaned in too. Our lips met softly and he held me closer to him. The kiss lasted for at least ten seconds. I was probably glowing because I was so happy.
When the fireworks ended, Harry and I walked back to the car and he drove me home. I told him I had a great time and I thanked him for everything. I unbuckled myself and was about to open the door, but I turned towards him and kissed him quickly.
I smiled at him and got out of the car. "I'll text you!" he called out before the door clicked shut. I ran up to my room, without telling my mom what happened. First it needed to sink in.
