I arrived home and threw my bag on the couch. "Are you hungry?" I heard mum say from the kitchen. She's a good mum, I just really miss my dad. He was always so fun and nice. Then one day, I didn't even know why, he left us. I was a hard time for both me and my mum and slowly but surely, we got through it.

"Jordan are you hungry?" Mum shouted again "Oh, I'll have something," I replied.

I flicked on the TV to see the news. Ugh. I soon realised there was no use trying endlessly to find something to watch so I went into the kitchen to see if mum had finished making me something to eat.

I walked into the kitchen to see a blueberry muffin and a hot chocolate (my favourite). "Thanks mum," I said in between mouthfuls. She smiled as she made herself a coffee. "So tell me more about your day at school. Properly this time," mum said as she took a long sip of her coffee. "Well I had English, maths and cooking. I also made a new friend, her name is Lily." Mum froze. "That sound fun dear! I'm glad your making friends. I'll be in my room if you need me." She walked up to her room with slight tears in her eyes. Why did she get sensitive every time I mentioned the name Lily?

A few minutes after I'd finished my afternoon tea, the phone rang. I went over to get it and a loud, familiar voice said "HELLO DARLING! How is school going? You are growing up so fast aren't you my honey bunch!" It was nana. Great. "Is you mother there sugar?" "Yep I'll get her." Phew I didn't have to tell her my life story.

"MUUUM THE PHOOONE." Mum came down the stairs. She'd obviously been crying a bit. "It's nana," I warned her. She winked and put the phone against her ear. "Hello?" I knew this was going to get serious so I went to the lounge.

I sat on the couch and flicked on the TV. "I know your going through a hard time. Yes I know. Hang on a second," said mum with the familiar anger in her voice. "Jordan I'll be outside." "Ok," I replied, glad to have some peace and quiet.

A few hours later mum came back inside. "What do you want for dinner honey?" Nana had obviously got her way with something. "I've got mac & cheese?" "Ok, thanks mum!" Note to self: don't mess with mum while she's angry. "I'm just going to have a shower," I said. I wanted to give mum some 'me' time.

I walked up the stairs into the bathroom, undressed and turned on the shower. The hot water felt great on my tired mussels. I had so many questions to ask. What did mum talk to nana about? Why was she angry? Why doesn't she like the name Lily? But most of all, why did dad leave me?
