"Jordan get up!" I opened my eyes one at a time, yawned and then realised why I was up so early.
"Coming," I replied as I got my stuff (packed by mum) and put it in the car. I brushed my teeth, got changed and hopped in the car.
Mum hopped in the seat next to me. "Road trip!"
"Aren't road trips meant to be fun?" I mumbled under my breath as I looked out the window. Mum turned up the music and started driving.
A few silent hours later, we arrived at the airport. Opening the door, my stomach knotted. What if I never see Lily again?
... ... ...
"Plane departing in 20 minutes," I heard over the loud speaker. "Come on Jordan!"
I fazed out as mum brought the tickets and all that boring stuff.
Finally, the plane arrived. I put the headphones over my ears and drifted to sleep, dreaming sweet dreams of Lily.
... ... ...
I woke up suddenly to the pain of my popping ears. I put my hand over them and groaned.
"Want a mint?" My mum said. She was used to the pain. I thought of Lily, again. How she said those exact words.
"Want a mint?" I heard mum say again. "Ok," I muttered. She handed me an oddfellow, man I love these things. I popped it in my mouth, started sucking the mint and the pain eased. Phew.
We arrived in Memphis, still in America. I saw nana waiting for us, smoking her cigar.
"Hi sugar," she said loudly. I cringed. "Hi nana."
Mum exited the plane with a fake smile. "Hi mum," she said to nana. "Hello darlin'. Lets say y'all head down to my place for a coffee and some cake," nana said through the opposite side of her mouth to the cigar.
We hopped in her rusted car and she drove through the towns of Memphis.
Finally we stopped at our future home. I couldn't see because the windows where tinted or just muddy so I opened the door. I stopped in my steps. What. The. Hell.
