It's half past twelve and Evan has just returned from the grocery shop carting a few bags of produce. He lays them on the table, exhausted. The fan noisily disturbs the calm desolute air in his apartment. He walks to his balcony, stripping off his jacket and flexing his shoulders.
The view is calm. His vantage atop his apartment balcony looked down upon a glorious view. The serene waves crashed down the dark wretched rocks far below. The dark sand rolled on until it came upon a road marking the end of the beach. His apartment was right opposite that road, coincidentally named Beach Rd.
The afternoon sun streamed down, casting a glow on his garden. It was albeit small but spectacular. A collection of herbs, spices and flowers. He even grew a few small vegetable plants. The garden made up of a wall of drooping orchids and herbs was dubbed 'The Hanging Gardens'
This was one of his escapes from the world below. Tending to his plants he forgot his problems that lay beyond. Evan seemed like an ordinary boy. But what ordinary boy had lost his parents at the age of 11 in a carcrash. Only to be shuffled through a deprecated adoption system. Seventeen long years later, he got a part time job and enrolled at a nearby highschool. His strange fascination with monotonous routine stemed from his experiences of turbulent times. But all wasn't bad after all. He was now financially secure, had made a few friends in this part of town and ofcourse tended to his garden.
Little did he know that his life would soon turn upside down.
