Chapter 8
Matt's POV
There's a saying that goes like everyone being either an open book or a padlocked diary. Savannah's a padlocked diary.
I never knew what was going through her head ever since we were kids.
I never knew if she liked my presents or if she felt lonely.
That's what's happening right now.
Savannah's pushing everyone away. I know that we weren't together anymore or at all, but I'm still her best friend and there's something suspicious about her.
It started when she tried setting me up with 3 bimbos that I knew she hated so much. Then, she always turns pale when she sees food. Lastly, when she came home from God knows where, smelling like the hospital.
I asked her once... Okay, more than once, if she was okay.
She answered the same word every single time. Fine.
She would smile after, unconsciously knowing that it looked fake to me.
I decided not to push it and just wait for the right time.
Today is the day.
My first gig.
I was beyond hyped!
I woke up extra early for that.
I went downstairs and grabbed a bowl of cereal and munched on it like there was no tomorrow.
Later, I heard footsteps down the stairs, only to reveal Savannah with just a shirt on.
"Why are you so giddy?" She asked slowly, like I wouldn't understand what she was saying.
"Oh nothing," I shrugged.
She didn't seem to believe me though. She grabbed the chair in front of me , sat on it, and got ready to interrogate me.
"What is it? Is it a girl? Tell me!" She said in one single breath.
It hurt knowing that she wouldn't care if I had another girl in mind, but I have to get on with it.
"Well, I do have this gig tonight," I said nonchalantly.
Her eyes widened.
"Shut up! Shut up!" She kept on saying.
"I'm not even saying anything," I quietly mumbled.
"Are you serious?"
"No, I'm Matty!" I smiled brightly, showing off my pearly whites.
She slowly calmed down and smiled.
"You. Have. A. Gig. Tonight." She said like she couldn't believe it.
I just nodded a couple times.
"Wow! That's pretty big," she breathed out.
"I was wondering if you could watch," I asked out of the blue.
At first she was smiling, but after awhile it slowly faded.
"It's so nice of you to ask me, but I can't tonight. I have a girl's night with Chachi."
To say I was beyond upset is an understatement.
I mumbled an okay.
She reached for my hand on the table.
"Just tell Momma to take a video for me, alright? I don't wanna miss it!"
"Alright."
-------------
I was backstage with George, Ross, and Adam. We were jumping around like school girls, but who the fuck cares? It's our first gig!
We were all wearing black, like it was uniform. We said a few short prayers and then it was show time.
I grabbed my guitar and walked to the mic.
"Hi, we're The 1975 and this is Chocolate," I announced to the crowd.
We broke into song and I let myself go. Forget about the problems. It was just the music and I.
After a few songs like The City, Sex, Woman, Girls, Talk, Money, and etc. our gig was coming to an end.
"Thank you very much! I honestly didn't think a lot of you would even listen to us, but thankfully you did."
A few of them whistled, which made me smile.
"In case you forgot who we are, we're The 1975 and goodnight!" I concluded.
I stared into the crowd for a few seconds and I could not believe what I was seeing.
