"But you hold my attention without even trying. A beautiful reflection from firework eyes, but never means forever." - The New National Anthem by Pierce The Veil.
Chapter 1:
The fire crackled as the sun dimmed behind the trees. The few of us were laughing at yet another pointless thing. I'm almost sure the scent of alcohol and cigarettes filled the air surrounding us, but at this point I could careless. In this moment we were nothing but almost happy. We were smiling and laughing as if there was not a worry in the world.
As I looked up all I could see was the stars fighting to be seen as the sky was illuminated. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. As I focused back towards the group, I felt happier than ever. For some reason this time felt different. This time we were finally a whole. I could hear them shouting my name, attempting to get my attention but it was useless. I never wanted to leave this little moment. It didn't matter that they were here, nothing mattered. It was though I was in a daze.
"Are you alright?" He whispered pulling my body towards him. All I could do was nod. "Come on, snap out of it, we wanna do something but not with out you" he spoke every so softly, as his fingers tapped on my legs. "Alright" I said snapping out of whatever trance I was in. I stood up and dusted off my jeans.
I felt someone pull on my arm, like they were dragging me towards them. I looked towards who it was, only to find the only person who knows everything. She could tell when something was up, and it was almost as if she sensed something just now. "Kat, what's going on?" She said once we were far enough for them not to here. I just shrugged my shoulders and waited for her to say something. "You've got to stop fading in and out. You're scaring him, wether you realize it or not. He doesn't know yet, but soon enough he will. So please try to stay in reality while he's around." She spoke with concern laced in her voice.
"Nora, you know I can't help it. I'm sorry but if he brings it up I'll just tell him it was nothing. Alright?" I knew I could keep hiding from him. It was nearly impossible. "He'll have to find out sooner or later, but let's just get back before they start worrying" I waited until she was a little bit ahead before starting my walk back.
"What are we doing?" I asked as I approached them. "you'll find out soon enough." I heard Ashton reply dragging Calum and Luke towards the cars, meeting up with the other. "You guys suck" I said sticking my tongue out and walking towards Michael. "What are we doing?" I said as soon as I was in front of him. "Uh paint-balling the city as of right now" a smile working a way onto his face as he finished. "Mhmm, why so smiley?" I questioned grabbing another beer.
"It's nothing" he said pulling me towards the cars. As we got closer, he stopped dragging me and ran towards the group screaming like a damn monkey. I couldn't help but laugh as the other jumped away from his as soon as he got to them. "Aw come on guys!" I heard him shout as I approached them. "Just get in your damn car mike"

As the sun started to rise, I was the only one still awake. Last night, we painted the city in splatters. The group started to get smaller the longer we were out, soon it was only Michael and I. This is how it normally is, we start as a group but end as a duo. Of course the others are never found out. We take the fall for them, knowing if their families found out they'd be dead in a minute.
Last night was different, but in a good way. It wasn't just random shooting and laughing, no this wasn't like the other times. This time something felt off. It seemed like it was a good thing though. It's definitely better than being the same and boring. Right?
For some reason, I couldn't get him out of my mind. The way he smiled last night. The sound of his laugher as some dude chased us. The way he is so carefree no matter what. Just the thought of him made me smile. I wouldn't call it love. I wouldn't even call it a crush. The two of us have been friends practically since the age of 5, so that possibility could be ruled out. Well at least I think it should be.
My mind was going crazy. I could barely keep up with it. My eyelids started to droop, enclosing me in darkness as I fell asleep with a smile painted on my face. This was going to be a good summer.
