Mateo's POV
Sitting in my office chair I bounce Emilio in my lap watching him drool and laugh to himself. He was the only thing keeping me in this chair and not going back to the sitting room to throttle my mother.
Sighing I twirl my chair side to side as I try not to think about my mothers immature ways.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and I reach down to grab it. The caller ID shows my mothers name and I force myself to answer it.
"Mateo, come back to the room. The Russians are knocking at our door and I don't want to deal with it." She spoke before I could even say anything. I don't reply and hang up instead. I'll talk to her further when I get back there.
Standing up from my seat I make sure Emilio is sat securely in my arms before making my way out of the office and back to my ridiculous family.
As I enter the room I don't even get the chance to speak before Emilio is plucked from my arms and quite frankly smothered into his mother's embrace. I would have said something about it but I decided against it. I could tell that Hanna was in full mama bear mode and would probably claw my eyes out if I came any closer. So instead I gave my mother my attention.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I don't know. Rafael just came running in yelling like a banshee saying the Russians were outside like I told you. And from the shooting I hear going on right now it very apparent that we need to make our way out there."
"I just don't understand why the Russians would be here now without warning." my father says. And he's not alone to think that. Usually it's a threatening letter that we get from Vasiliev saying that he plans to do either this or that. Yet he never acts on such threats which makes this situation even more confusing. Did he send something and I just didn't get it. Was this mean't to be a surprise? Was the goal to kill us all in the middle of the day? Well those can be answered later.
"We'll figure that out later right now we need to get organized. Papi are you going to the safe room?"
"Non sono una stronza. Sto andando." he grunts before standing very slowly from his seat. (Im not a bitch. Im going)
"Very well. You guys go down and get everyone situated and I'll be down there in a sec. Rosco!" I call knowing he's not that far away.
"Yes sir?" he answers, appearing in the doorway.
"I need you to bring Hanna and Emilio down to the safe room they should have everything they need down there."
He nods sharply and stands there waiting for Hanna to move. But from the faraway look on her face I don't think she heard anything that was said in the last couple of minutes.
"Hanna." she didn't answer.
"Hanna!" I said even louder and she looked at me.
"What?" she asked.
"Focus will you! I need you and Mateo to go to the safe room until this all blows over. Do you understand?" I spoke a little slowly so it could process in her head. I honestly don't have the time or patience to be repeating myself but I have to make sure she understands what's going to happen.
She nods and get up and I motion her to follow Rosco before leaving the room and making my way downstairs. The front door is wide open and I could see the cross fire between the Vasiliev's men and mine very clearly. I quickly get away from the open door and to the armory to get everything I needed. Once I was finished I stepped out and out the corner of my eye I saw a flash or blonde hair running up the stairs. It's most likely a maid trying to get to the safe room so I shrug it off.
I find my parents and grandfather taking cover behind a shattered window. Great now that's gonna need to be replaced among other things. I sigh and take cover on the opposite side of the room and take a breath before peeking out. I find an idiot standing out in the open shooting blindly but it seems no ones notice. Which is stupid because he's standing right there!
I aim my revolver to his shoulder steadying my arm before pulling the trigger. The bullet slices through the air and into dumb dumb's shoulder and I smirk as he screams in pain, the gun he was holding falls onto the ground as does his body. I then aim for his kneecaps and shoot. He screams again but everyone ignores him despite his crawling and wailing for help. I could almost laugh at how pitiful he looks but I turn my attention onto another idiot and open fire.By the end of this I should have a lot of people to question and boy wont it be fun.
This went on for another 15 mins before the bastards started pulling away.
"Hold your fire!" I order and the gun fire immediately. We all stand from our crouched positions and watch as the enemy retreat back to their cars and drive off. I guess they had enough then.
"Someone go check and see who's alive and bring back any who are alive that aren't one of us. I also want you to look the estate and see in we have any unwanteds still lingering about." I say not really directing it at anyone.
"E 'stato noioso." papa says while brushing some glass of his pants. I roll my eyes and pull out my phone. (That was boring)
I dial Rosco so that I could tell him that it was okay to let everyone out but he wouldn't answer. I try to more times before growling in frustration. I try Hanna's phone as well but that goes straight to voicemail. Uneasiness floods my whole being and before I know it I'm racing towards the safe room ignoring the calls from my mother and father. When I get to the hidden door I feel my heart drop to my stomach as I hear Emilio's cries from the bottom of the steps.
Running or more like flying down the stairs I find Emilio on his back in front of the staircase alone crying his eyes out. Without a second thought I grab my crying child and try to calm him down as much as possible.
How long has he been down here like this? Where's Rosco? Where's Hanna? My minds whirs as I look at Emilio's very red and snotty face.
"What's going on?!" yells my mother from the top of the stairwell. I ignore her and continue to rock Emilio. My eyes gaze the dark surrounds, expecting something to pop out and strike. I know nothings going to but that doesn't make me any less weary.
My mother comes down the stairs followed by my father. Without saying a word I hand her Emilio. I can tell that in her eyes she wants to ask questions but she knows it not the time. Walking further down the hall I stop when I see Rosco's unconscious form on the floor. I crouch down and smack his face a little and he begins to stir. Groaning now he sits up looking around, almost confused.
"What happened?" I ask not wasting any time. Rosco looks at me then and just shakes his head.
"I don't know. We were just walking and the all of a sudden lights out." he explains. "Did something happen to Hanna or the baby?" He ask, guilt and worry flashing in his eyes.
"Emilio is fine but Hanna is missing. I need you to go get everyone out of the safe room and I want a meeting with everyone in 5." I say getting up.
"Yes Sir." He says, quickly getting off his feet and doing what I said. Schooling my features I try to keep calm trying to think. It was obviously the Russians but why? If they wanted to really get to me why not take Emilio? This is so confusing. I almost groan.
"Are you gonna tell us what's going on?" asked my father.
"The Russians took Hanna and I don't why."
