It was recess and they all stepped out of their class, Sara took this as an opportunity to break things down alone, she had always had the habit of doing so. She excused herself from the girls and went to the restroom. She was feeling quite good about herself when suddenly her anxiety hit again.
"They all complimented you for your hair, what if thats the only thing they like about you?" "Who would want to be friends with you anyways?"
She couldn't just not listen to that voice, it was true after all. She had long, thick dark brown hair, that would go below her hipline. Nevertheless she made sure she didn't let the voice get in the way of a good day, and brushed it off.
She went outside and saw her friends as if they were waiting for her. Tara waved at her "You okay?" she asked in a concerned tone "Yeah I'm good" Sara flashed an assuring smile back as she joined the group. They shared a short conversation about each other and then it was time to head back to class.
They came in and sat down on their seats, the boys were already in class. "Oh my god! I-I think he was looking at me!" Natasha squealed. Sara looked around in confusion having no clue what was happening, but she thought it was some inside joke they had since she started school a little late. "Don't pay much attention to her Sara, she likes Khaled and now she thinks he's stealing glances at her" Tara said in an annoyed tone. "I mean he could be looking at any of us?"
"Khaled" Sara said to herself she knew it was that boy since the rest of them were friendly enough to at least introduce themselves.
Khaled was a tall boy with tan skin and dark brown hair. He had a really deep voice. There was something about him that made every girl like him. But he was rather reserved when it came to girls so no one thought they'd stand a chance.
School was finally over, Sara skipped down the steps happily and headed home as she said goodbye to her friends. As she stepped out of the school, she put on her headphones and walked home, not really thinking much.
She ran in and hugged her mother, Sara adored everyone around her, especially her friends and family. "How was your day?" asked her mother. "Way better than I expected!" the mother then sighed out of relief "Well I'm glad to see my daughter happy." she said, as Sara let go of her mom, breaking the hug and going into her room to change and then eat something. After that she did her homework, by that time it was evening already. Sara had quite some time on her hands so she decided to text her best friend, Leena. They were internet friends. They met in real life around three times. Leena lived in Dubai. They would talk to each other everyday otherwise it would feel like they've missed an important part of their lives.
It was now night, Sara changed into her pjs and layed in bed, she stared up at the ceiling thinking about today. She smiled to herself, wanting to grow close to everyone. She thought of the chances of her being friends with boys because of her awkward personality "I can at least try" she said thinking of Khaled now. She was happy she at least knew his name and set her goal to be more open to the class.
She opened a drawer in her bedside table to take out her diary. It was all black in colour. She used to write about her accomplishments and downfalls in it.
She picked up a pen and started writing ;
You did it, day one complete! I'm proud of you, you've been through a lot and now you know exactly what you're supposed to do. And I'm prod of you, you may not have anyone to talk to but you have yourself, don't forget that and keep your head high. Love X
She closed the book and kept it back in its place, turned the lights off and yawned "I can't wait for tomorrow" she said while smiling as she closed her eyes to sleep.
