Troy and I spent a little longer in the treehouse cuddling, talking, and kissing. We were in the middle of a kiss when Troy had burst out laughing, when I had asked him what was so funny he had started singing 'Troy and Annie sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G'. It had been cute and funny at the time, I had even sang it all the way back home. It was not cute and funny now that it was still stuck in my head making it very hard to concentrate on my book. I was even at a good part and I couldn't get that stupid song out of my head. I heard a knock on my door as I was rereading the same paragraph for the third time.

"Come in!" I hollered, I looked up to see my mom walked into my room.

"Did you think I would forget out little talk we need to have?" She gave me a questioning look as she sat down on my bed beside me.

"I was kind of hoping." I joked, but also was slightly serious. I knew we needed to have this talk but I was dreading it.

She laughed and pulled me into her side like she did when I was a little girl, "You've grown up so much Annie, you're not my little pup anymore." I could tell she was trying not to tear up. She cleared her throat and continued. "Firstly I want to say how happy I am that you have found your mate. I know what it's like to find them and how wonderful it makes you feel, so I am very happy you have found him. I hope you believe me when I say that."

"I do." I could tell she was being sincere and meant every word.

"Good. Correct me if I am wrong but that handsome young man that I caught sneaking in your window isn't fully human is he?" I shook my head no in response.

"Does the other part of him resemble a fish like appearance?" She asked. Once again I responded with only shaking my head yes. I don't know why I didn't just tell her the truth. I knew she knew about him and his kind, but I still felt like I had to keep his secret until she said what he was out loud.

"I thought so. Is that why you didn't tell me you had found your mate? Because he's a mermaid?"

"Merman." I corrected her. "Yes, that's why I didn't tell you. I didn't know how you would react or how you would accept him."

"To tell you the truth I was a little star struck once I caught more of his scent and realized what he was. I've never met a mer before. He's very handsome also." She looked at me and smiled.

"Yes he is." I agreed.

"I understand why you didn't tell me about him but I won't lie and say it didn't hurt a little that you didn't. I want you to feel like you can come to me with anything." She gave me a small smile. "Although, we have been very hard on you and taught you to be a strong independent woman so I shouldn't be surprised you were handling this on your own."

"I'm sorry mom, I really did want to tell you and talk to you about this. I just didn't know what or how to say it." How does one tell their Luna mom that they had found their mate but he wasn't a wolf, or a human? I wouldn't have even known how to begin that conversation.

"Well, for future reference, you can always come to me Annie. Even if it is something you know I won't approve of you can still come to me and we can talk it thru. Okay?" She looked me in the eyes and I nodded that I understood. "Good. Now, what are you going to do with that mate of yours? You know he cannot be Alpha if he is not a wolf. You don't even know what will happen if you were to mark him, he could die." I understood the risks of my marking, hopefully he would just turn human like the fairy did.

"Fairy? What fairy?" Mom asked making my eyes widen, I must have said that last part out loud.

"Um... I mean... No.... I.... uh." Mom put her hand up to silence my stuttering.

"Annie I already know how capable you and your friends are at finding out information when you need it, so I can already guess that Scarlet has gotten her hands on information that she is not supposed to have. I won't say anything to her parents but I would suggest you advise her to not do it anymore." I nodded that I would tell her. "Good, now, tell me what Scarlet found out."

I told my mom the story about the wolf and the fairy. "Do you by any chance know more of the story?" I asked her once I had finished.

"Scarlet must have had to dig deep in the records to find that. I don't condone the snooping but you have good friends Annie." My mom said sighing. "You two have a tricky road ahead of you, you need an Alpha and Troy will need a queen."

My head whipped up, "How did you know his dad was the King?"

"We know all about the Alexanders." She said.

"You do? How come you never said anything? And how come the pack doesn't know about them? Or that there are others like us out there? I'm going to be Luna, why wouldn't I be informed?" I questioned.

My mom shook her head. "Scarlet found all this out I assume?" I shrugged my shoulders not wanting to put my friend in danger of getting in trouble.

"I'm going to assume that since you know all these other details that you know about the treaty also, that no other being is to be on our land. Correct?"

"Yes I know. What I don't know is why."

"To prevent something like this from happening again." She said. I perked up hoping she would finished the story.

"As you already know, there was a wolf and fairy that were mates. When he marked her she lost all of her fairy capabilities and became human. Stronger than a normal human but still only a human. That's not where the story ends though, the wolf wasn't just a regular wolf, he was an Alpha." That was something Scarlet had not found out. I leaned forward listening as mom finished the story. "Alpha Bryan was his name, he was leader of a great pack in Colorado. His mates name was Sicily, the pack loved her as their Luna even though she lost all her fairy abilities and was only human. They lived happily for many years, had pups and grand pups. Their children were normal humans, they didn't inherit any of the wolf qualities from their father or fairy powers from their mother. When their children found their wolf mates and had pups, it was the same thing, normal human children." Mom paused and took a deep breath. "One day, they were attacked by hunters, not just a few of them but close to a hundred. Back then they resembled small army's. Luna Sicily was in charge of protecting the young and elderly as all Luna's do when there is an attack, but she was only human and was no match for the hunters. She was killed as was the whole pack, it was a complete massacre. You see the pack was weak, with so many humans in the pack it made them easy targets and unable to defend themselves. Nearby Alpha's saw the massacre and made the decision to ban all others from coming into contact with our kind so that we may remain strong as packs and not become extinct. The others beings agreed to never step foot on our lands as long as we promised to never harm them or take their lands away from them. Everyone agreed and it was settled."

I sat there stunned by my mom's words. A whole pack killed because of a mate that was different. Different like my mate was. I looked to my mom with tears in my eyes. "What am I going to do mom?"

She leaned in and kissed my forehead. "I don't know sweetie. I do know this, you will make an amazing Luna or Queen but you can't be both."

"I know." She was right, I couldn't be both.

"Enough of the serious talk, how about we go downstairs and make ourselves some chocolate peanut butter sundaes?" Mom got up from my bed and reached a hand out for me.

"Yes please!" I grabbed her hand and followed her downstairs to the kitchen. As we made our sundaes, I couldn't but wonder how much longer we would be able to spend time with each other like this. I had a feeling my life was going to get very complicated in the near future so I needed to enjoy this time with her as much as I could.
