Hair and makeup? Check. Nails painted? Check. Dress and shoes on? Check. Nauseous and tons of butterflies? Check, check, check! As I looked in the mirror I had to admit I didn't look to shabby! Renee's mom, Aunt Sandi is a master at hair and makeup. My hair hung is loose curls and my face looked flawless, I was going to have to sit down with her and learn her magic ways. My mom knew clothes so my dress and shoes were perfect for me. My dress was a dark blue tea length dress with a sweet heart neckline, and cap sleeve. It reminded me a retro house wife on TV but it looked amazing on me if I do say so myself. I actually look like I have some curves underneath! My shoes were flats much to my mom's dismay, we had a bit of an argument when we were discussing my outfit for my party. She insisted that all girls my age wore heels to their eighteenth birthday party, and I insisted that it would be a horrible idea. I would be nervous enough without the heels, I didn't need to worry about walking in heels. I eventually won and my mom was able to find suitable flats though, well as she said, 'I suppose they will do.'
"We clean up pretty good." Nan said as we admired ourselves in the mirror. I'm not a vain person by any means but I wouldn't disagree with her tonight. I looked and felt good.
"Lies. You feel like you are getting ready to puke." Nan reminded me and I rolled my eyes, fine I looked good and felt like I was going to hurl all over the place.
"That's better." Nan said happy with herself.
My staring at myself in the mirror was interrupted by shouts from downstairs, who could that be? Everyone had left for the party already to set up, I was just waiting for Sam to show up. The shouts continued to get louder so I slipped out of my room and crept to the top of the stairs to see what was going on. I peeked around the corner to see Renee fuming at Sam and her finger in his face.
"She doesn't WANT you to escort her so you aren't going to! End of story." Renee shouted at Sam getting even more in his face.
"Listen here you little twerp, just because you're the Alphas daughters best friend doesn't give you any right to tell me what to do." Sam was now leaning in towards Renee and I can see his shoulders squaring up to make himself look bigger. "And watch who you're speaking to! I am the lead warrior's son and will be your Alpha someday, you need to show some respect."
Renee wasn't afraid of him and wasn't about ready to back down. She took her finger and shoved it into Sam's chest. "I'll speak to you however I want to speak to you! You are NOT my Alpha. You will never be my Alpha! Therefore I shall speak, look, and think whatever I want when it comes to you. And there isn't a dang thing you can do about it!!" She punctuated each word of her last sentence with a hard poke to Sam's sternum. Renee was really fired up and so was Sam, I could hear him start to growl. Just as I was stepping to go stop them from ripping each other's throats out I heard the front door bang open.
"What's going on here?" Lily demanded and I wasn't sure to worry or be thankful that Lily had shown up. Lily wasn't always the calmest person when it came to certain situations.
"Looks like Renee was about ready to kick Sam's butt is what it looks like. Need some help?" I groaned quietly as I heard Ellie's voice. Renee, Lily, and Ellie all fired up was not good.
"Guy's there is no need for violence. Besides, we don't want to upset Annie on her special day do we? What would Alpha Rogers think?" Goddess bless you Scarlet, she knew how to shut situations down quickly. I peeked a look at Sam and saw that he was relaxing, he wasn't worried about upsetting me but upsetting my dad was not an option.
"Dude, you really want to get beat up by a bunch of girls? That would kill your butt kicking warrior status for sure, not to mention embarrassing. What would your dad say about you getting beat up by girls, what would Alpha Rogers think? Shameful for sure." Eddie said as he sauntered into the house wrapping his arm around Lily.
"Eddie's right, Uncle Alph would be very disappointed to see one of his top warriors beaten by a girl and Aunt Lu would have my hide for getting blood on her carpet. We wouldn't want that now would we?" Renee said using her names for my parents in front of Sam to show how close she was to my family. Her back was to me but I could just imagine the smirk on Renee's face as she said it.
"Why you little-" I heard Sam take a step towards Renee.
"OKAY!" Scarlet said stepping in between Sam and Renee. "Sam, don't you think it would be more romantic for you to lock eyes with Annie for the first time in front of everyone? Then everyone would see that you two are mates and everyone would get to see you become the next Alpha?" What was Scarlet doing? She knew how I felt about him, why would she be encouraging him?
"Hmmm. I see your point. I would hate to take everyone getting to see me be chosen by the moon goddess to be Annie's mate. Your right, I need to do it in front of everyone. Let them see me become their Alpha." Sam agreed with her and I could hug Scarlet as I realized what she did. She knew how to play into Sam's ego, she knew if she said the right things he would give in and let me go alone.
"But I promised Alpha Rogers I would escort Annie there, I wouldn't want to let him down should anything happen to her." Sam insisted as I rolled my eyes, it was a ten minute drive, I think I would be all right.
"I'll take her." Eddie spoke up and I'm sure Lily had given him that idea.
"Eddie that's a perfect idea! Eddie and Lily are already mates so there's no way Eddie will be Annie's mate. It's the perfect solution." Scarlet clapped her hands in excitement.
"Well, I guess it will be alright. As long as Annie is delivered to the party safely. You're a decent fighter so I'm sure you can handle the small drive." Sam said in reference to Eddie, I didn't need to look to know that Lily would be trying to hold herself back from lashing out at Sam. She didn't take kindly to anyone speaking ill of her mate.
Sam made his way to the door, he turned to Rene before he stepped outside. "Tell Annie I'll see her at the party, make sure she looks perfect for me. I need my future Luna to be able make heads turn and look good on my arm." Slamming the door behind him.
"Seriously that guy has got some nerve!" Renee fumed as I walked down the stairs.
"I'm shocked neither you nor Lily knocked him out flat." I said to all of them as I reached the bottom of stairs. My friends turned at the sound of my voice and they all broke out into smiles as they looked at me.
"Annie, you look so beautiful!" Breathed Ellie, the others nodded their heads in agreement.
"Thank you." I'm said quietly, I wasn't used to the attention and I'm sure I was fifty shades of red.
"We didn't realize how much of a jerk off Sam was Annie, I know I speak for all of us when I say we are sorry for ever pushing him onto you or even teasing you about him." Lily apologized for the group.
"There is no way the moon goddess has paired you with that skumbag." Ellie murmured as we all headed out the door.
"She's right Annie, I reached out to Sam's wolf while they were arguing. There was no connection, no bond, and no spark. He's not our mate." Nan told me excitedly.
"Are you sure? Like a hundred percent positive?" I asked her, I hadn't looked Sam in the eyes to confirm it.
"I'm positive, we can sense our mate when they are near. I sensed and felt nothing from Sam's wolf." Nan assured me and I had to try very hard not to burst into happy tears. I knew the moon goddess wouldn't stick me with him for the rest of my life or the pack with him as their Alpha, the goddess was smiling down on me and my pack tonight.
