I've never fallen in love. But I've seen love, I see it everywhere I go. I see it with Mr and Mrs Burrows, the old couple down the street. I see it in different shapes and forms, like when an animal cradles her young. Love isn't just what you see in movies, it is what lies beneath the shared kisses. I think love is a feeling you can't put into words, you can't compare it to anything and you can't describe it. When you're in love, you just know. You dont' need to explain it to anyone. But, love is tragic. I've seen it fail and I've seen is destroy.
"What are you thinking about?" Michael asked, distracting me from my thoughts.
"Nothing" I sighed, I laid back down on the picnic blanket and stared up at the clear blue sky.
"He should be here soon"
Michaels words were just faint whispers to me, I wasn't really focusing on what he was talking about at the moment.
"Avery?" Michael poked me to bring my attention back to him. "Did you hear me?"
"No" I blankly replied.
"Luke? He's meeting us here with Cal and Ash" Michael rolled his eyes at me.
"Oh, him" Cal and Ash had mentioned Luke Hemmings a numerous amount of times before. "I've known you three all my life and I have never met one your closest mates, how does that work?"
Michael didn't answer me, instead he got up to give the guys a "bro hug". I just stood up and hugged them as normal and walked over to Luke.
Wow.
Jesus.
He is beautiful. He is extremely tall may I added. His eyes were this shade of blue that wasn't like anything I've seen before. Strands of his blonde hair were seeping through the front of his grey beanie. I spent a few seconds admiring his muscular arms before introducing myself. "Hi, I'm Avery"
"Luke Hemmings, what a lovely name by the way" He shook my hand, and walked over to where me and Michael had set up, leaving me blushing.
I got to know Luke better over the course of the night. He was 18, a year older than me but same age as the others. I had never met him because he lived in a different part of Australia and didn't come down often but he recently moved here for school. He likes All Time Low and Blink 182 and other bands. He also sings and plays the guitar and suggested forming a group with the boys. Thats the topic of conversation now and what the band could be called.
"How about four twats?" I suggested, taking a sip of beer.
"THE AWESOME FOURSOME" Calum beamed, I think he was wasted enough to think that was a good idea.
"Seriously guys, think" Michael went all serious on us now.
"5 Seconds of Summer?" I spoke up and broke the silence. It sounded like a good name in my head.
"I like it, Avery" Luke smiled. I loved the way he said my name, he said it softly and delicately like it should be said with caution to embrace its beauty.

The next was a blur. Going to school hungover was never a good idea. I dont know why we chose a Sunday to get pissed. I took a cold shower to refresh myself then slowly got changed. I put on skinny jeans and a simple top and put my shoes on and went downstairs. I quickly fixed my hair and grabbed my bag then left.
I saw Michael half way up the road and jogged to catch up with him. I eventually did. "You look like hell"
"As do you" He chuckled. "So what do you think of Luke?"
"He's alright" I shrugged.
We walked into the school hallways once arriving then headed to our lockers. We saw Calum, Ashton along the way and had a chat until it was time to split. I headed to English. 10 minutes into the lesson, Luke walked in. "Sorry I'm late, I'm new" He said to Mr Amsely and sat behind him in the empty seat.
Half way into the lesson, Luke leaned forward and asked me "Why do you think he did it?"
"Pardon?" I twisted back to face him.
"Why did Romeo kill himself?" Luke asked.
"Haven't you heard the story before?" I asked sarcastically but with great worry.
"Of course I have, Avery. But why kill yourself over one girl" Luke let out a little laugh. "Pathetic really. I mean yeah can't live without her and all that shit but surely Juliet would want him to live and be happy. She's a selflish bitch and he is arrogant and impulsive"
"It wasn't her fault she didn't wake up in time! But I agree, it was an impulsive act" I sighed at the fact that he had a point, I turned around to continue paying attention to the class.
Second and third period flew by like a breeze, I had a free period fourth so I decided just to hang outside Ashtons class and pull faces to distract him, often getting him in trouble. After that, Ash and I headed to the canteen to meet the others.
"Aren't you eating Luke?" I asked.
"No, I'm not very hungry" His complexion was paler today, I didnt notice in english.
"I have an apple in my bag if you'd like it?" I offered but he just shook his heard, Calum threw him a sly worried look which I was able to catch on to.
At the end of school, I saw Calum walking out the gates, I ran towards to catch up and find out whats up with Luke.
"Hey Cal" I nugged him. "Is Luke okay?"
"Uh, yeah, why?" Calum asked, raising his eyebrow.
"I saw the look you gave him after I offered him my apple"
"He doesnt like apples" Calum lied straight to my face, I knew this because Luke was drinking apple juice earlier that day.
"Don't lie to me Hood" I said firmly.
"Look, all I know is that hes okay, talk to him yourself" Calum walked further off and down the road that lead him home.
I found myself lying awake at midnight that night, thinking about everything and Luke. I remembered I had his number and decided to text him.
Me: Hey there Lukey, is everything okay? X - Avery
Luke: Oh, hi Avery. I didn't have your number, how did you get mine?
Me: Ash.. Now are you okay?
Luke: I'm alright
Me: Are you sure? You didn't look so good.
Luke: Uh, yeah just a bit hungover.. See you tomorrow.
Bullshit.
