The dark is within all of us, but when gazing into darkness the darkness also gazes into you

In a northern mountain range, lay a young girl. Her parents were mages, with power to rival demigods. Throughout her entire life she had trained in dark sorcery, under the watchful eyes of her parents. They cared for her, and while practicing dark magic was important to them, their children were too; So her father designed a scheme. He would show her the many ways to channel dark energy into a usable substance, while withholding the information about why. He had known why at a young age, and the sheer weight of the knowledge had been so heavy on his mind, he had been forced to take drastic measures to ensure that no other creature would ever suffer the amount of pain he had, not even those of rivaling clans. He had taken the texts from which he had learned, and burned them in fire hotter than brimstone. however, no matter how hard he tried, he could not erase the memories, and as time went on, they plagued his mind; spreading dark thoughts of murder, and hate.

It was a quiet day. The evening breeze rustled the autumn leaves, dappling an eerie yellow glow across the cave entrance. The girl had been trekking the mountain for days, desperately searching for the camp of the rival tribe. She had been informed by a young child, whom they had captured, that the tribe was heading through this mountain range this evening. They had exchanged his life for that information, and had been told that if he were ever to involve himself with that clan ever again, he would be cast to the underworld and tortured for eternity. She lay in wait, listening closely for the distinct sound of marching. The sky grew darker as time went on, and the girl's hopes were slowly dying; and as the moon hung itself in the sky, and the stars glittered above like diamonds, the girl grew drowsy. She settled into a position, wedged between two branches, and fell swiftly into a deep slumber.
