*My own adaptation of a story that's been floating around Wattpad lately :)*
I don't mean to scare you or anything, but I have this....special ability. I'm not sure how it happened, but it started when I was around eleven or twelve, and it took me a while to realize what it meant. Please don't freak out when I tell you this, but....I can tell how people are going to die. Nothing specific or anything, like an exact date or time, or a video iny head displaying their demise. More like, a notion, an aura, that shimmers around them, invisible to most. Except for me, I guess. Surprisingly, it corresponds to the colors of a traffic light. A green indicator surrounds most of the kids my age, and that's a good sign. Green means you will live a long and healthy life, and meet your end lying in a hospital or nursing home bed surrounded by the ones you love. The brighter the green, the brighter your future.
A fair amount of people I come across have a yellowish-orange color to their aura, and that's where it gets a little foggy. These are the victims of tragedies, such as cancer or car accidents. Anything that takes a person before his or her time. It could be as farfetched as a plane crash, an elevator disaster, getting hit by a meteorite or being eaten by an ostrich. The scope is incredibly broad, but yellow always, always means an accidental death.
And then there's red.
When I see red, I know there's nothing anyone can do. Once in a while I'll glimpse someone who emits a scarlet glow, and it always makes me sad. These are the victims of murder and suicide. The brighter the color, the sooner it happens. A year ago, I walked past a man who looked like he was on fire, and the next day he was all over the news for jumping off a cliff.
Sometimes indicators can change colors, too. I was watching the news report about a bank robbery, and they showed the security camera footage. All the civilians milling around were encompassed by healthy green glows, until a man ran in with a gun. Almost all of them shifted to scarlet instantly. I turned off the television when I saw that.
Why am I telling you this? Because you are our last hope. I walked into class this morning and saw one of my friends flaming crimson. I nearly burst into tears, but what I saw next sent me into a state of shock. All of my classmates wore identical, fluorescent red auras, including myself when I looked down at my hands. I have no idea what's about to happen, but it can't be good.
Hang on, my professor just walked in. And look how green he is! That's got to be good. Maybe he knows what's going on, or I got something wrong.
He looks different, maybe he's not feeling very well today.
Why's he looking at us so oddly?
And why did he just lock the door?
