Days and weeks have passed and Jack has gotten no where. The treatments are barley helping and he's getting sicker. Rick and Kate have started sleeping in the guest room upstairs to they can be close to him at night of he gets sick or needs anything, or if the other kids need something. The situation has been hard on everybody, but mostly Kate. Jack was defiantly a mommas boy and he always wanted Kate, no matter what. She had taken a lot of time off work to be with him and the kids. Gates was understanding and let her take all the time she needed with some pay, though they really didn't need it.

They tried to make the lifestyle as normal for the other three kids as possible, but it was getting harder and harder. Jacks doctor said he would most likely be hospitalized soon if the tumor doesn't shrink, which at this point it doesn't look like it.

It's three am, and Kate just put jack back to bed after him getting sick, Anna had woken up so Rick had to go tend to her. When they finally met back in the bedroom Kate couldn't sleep, so she wrapped a blanket around her and went and sat on the balcony. Rick though about letting her be, but she was fragile and needed him right now, so he pulled on a shirt and sat next to her outside. She smiled as he wrapped his arm around her and she gladly shared the blanket. "Are you ok?" Rick asked gazing up at the barely visible stars.

Kate shrugged, "I'm just exhausted." She sighed and leaned into him. "What about you?"

"I'm- honestly, Kate, I'm scared." He admitted. Kate sighed. Rick had comforted her so much since jack got sick and he has only broken down twice, she needed to comfort him now.

"Babe, look at me." Rick looked at Kate, tears brimming his eyes. "I'm scared too."

She rubbed a hand up and down his arm and he finally broke, "I don't wanna loose him." Kate wrapped her arms around him and his face pressed into her neck, clinging her body to him. She tried to sooth him by rubbing his neck and back, that always seemed to work best.

"I don't either, babe." Kate let some tears slip, but she wasn't going to break. It was ricks turn, he had been so strong for so long. Rick didn't say much more that Kate could make out, so she just held him the best she could and let him cry. She could feel his hot, sticky tears on her neck, but she didn't care. He needed to let it all out, and honestly in Kate's book, true men do cry.

When Rick was finally calmer Kate got to her feet, helping him up the best she could. "Why don't we go lay down?" Kate asked, taking his hand and guiding him back into the bedroom. He got settled in bed and Kate shut the lights out and met him in bed. "Do you need anything?" She asked snuggling close to him.

"No, just let me hold you?" He asked bringing her closer and she nodded,

"always." As they got settled they both began to cry, silently, tears flowing like rivers down their cheeks. But they just held each other and hoped and preyed for the best. Sometimes though, they wondered when they would run out of tears all together.
