I woke the next day, and all the information from yesterday came flooding back. Well, at least I wasn't continuously bored sitting in my room anymore.
I told Aster that I would be at the tree by noon. He wanted to train me a little, whatever that meant.
I got up and went to the river to bathe. After word, I washed my clothes I was wearing. Then I dressed in a dark green v-neck cotton t-shirt and jean shorts. I put my sandals on to complete my outfit and slowly walked to the tree.
I got there just before noon, and waited for Aster to arrive. I waited for thirty minutes at least, and there was no sign of him. I stood in the middle of the clearing, waiting for another five minutes before, out of nowhere, something came at me from behind.
It tackled me to the ground, pinning me face down. I saw a hand with a peculiar bracelet on it.
"Aster," I huffed, my voice slightly muffled, "Get off of me."
He got off and lent me a hand. I took it and he pulled me up. "Lesson one: always be aware of your surroundings."
"Noted."
"If you want to keep surviving, you will need these lessons I teach you," he explained.
"Yes, master," I said sarcastically.
"Lesson two: don't test me," he said right before he kicked my legs out from underneath me.
I landed on my butt, hard. I glared at him, being all cocky, and I got up. "Okay, if this becomes a thing, I won't be able to get up any more."
"Better start learning," he said as he threw a punch at me. This time I knew what to expect.
I swiped his punch, and returned one of my own. He knocked it down and went through the opening I had created. It landed on my ribs, but it didn't hurt as much as when he punched my jaw the first time. It was still sore, and I'm sure it was black and blue.
"So, you have some basic skills and reflexes, but now you learn technique."
He then punched and kicked at me in sets of four. I could only dodge him, but I soon got tired. He kicked me to the ground and I landed flat on my back.
I groaned, "Is this really how it's going to be?"
"Get your butt off the ground. After this we'll go run on the beach. I'm helping you," he said.
"Sure," I mumbled. Then I got up, and he taught me a few fighting techniques.
I soon could hold my own for five whole minutes, which was saying a lot. We then went to his beach because it was closer.
"Okay, now I need you to run with me. Try to keep up," he smiled.
Before I could say anything, he took off down towards the wet sand. I went after him, copying where he went. After a bit I got tired, but I kept on going. When we turned around to go back, I was exhausted. We kept running, but now it was more a slow jog.
"Want to walk now?" Aster questioned.
"Yes please," I breathed.
We walked in silence for awhile, letting me catch my breath. I looked out into the sea, catching sight of another hippocampus. This one was a blue and green combination.
"I have been missing out on this view my whole life. I can't even begin to understand why my parents wouldn't let me out of the village."
"Might I suggest," Aster started, "that they knew and didn't want you to discover it?"
"It's likely, but I wish I could ask them to know for sure. There are alot of things I want to ask them, really.”
"In another life, maybe. But now, you're stuck with me!" He finished cheerfully.
