I had my first nightmare since a few days after the flood. It first started off replaying that day, then it flashed to my parents experience. They were stuck in their workplace, my dad with my mom. Seeing them completely calm, seeming to accept their fate, brought up emotion I didn't know I had been holding in.

It got weird when the water started rising and they started speaking. Only it wasn't like I was observing them talking to each other, they were talking to me. Like I was there.

"You must be careful, Lark. You are special, unique in the world," my mom spoke softly. The water was rising faster now.

"This will be news to you, but we aren't who you thought we were. We love you, more than you could ever know," my father blurted out before the water consumed them both and I awoke, slightly sweaty and out of breath.

I couldn't stand to be in my room alone after that frightening revelation, so I went downstairs and into the kitchen for a snack. Though midway through my snack I heard footsteps behind me. I turned sharply to face Cam.

"Oh, it's just you," I exhaled.

"Just me huh?" He whispered.

"You heard me."

"Spooked?"

"A little."

"What from?"

"Just a nightmare, nothing serious."

"Wanna talk about it?"

It was then I wondered why he wasn't provoking me as much. Sure, he said he would start over, but did I really believe him? Not really. "No," was my curt answer.

"Okay. Want me to keep you company?"

I contemplated it, deciding it wouldn't hurt to have someone to talk to for a little. "Okay."

I finished eating and we went to sit on the plush chairs in front of the big floor to ceiling windows. It was silent for a small period of time, both of us just looking at the stars, since it was still the wee hours of morning.

"The stars are beautiful," Cam murmured.

"Coming from a guy with an affinity for the daytime and music, I'm surprised. But yes, they are."

"How'd you know that?"

"Viola talks. And she is teaching me some of the stuff not elaborated on in history."

Slight lie, but a part truth. He'll get over it.

"What is a favorite pastime of yours?" I asked, just to fill the silence.

"I will go out into my mother's garden in my free time, the pull weeds and care for the flowers."

"Didn't peg you as a gardener type. I guess you can't really judge a person until you really get to know more about them."

"Words of wisdom, Lark. I should take your advice, get to know you and your friend better. I am sorry for how I acted, but I am going to be better."

I didn't respond, only giving him a brief glance. It was silent for another few minutes.

I decided to ask a few more personal questions, just to open the topic of my nightmare. It might relieve some of the pent up fear in my chest.

"Have you... ever lost someone close to you to an accident or disaster?"

"Yes," he admitted, smiling sadly. "My grandfather passed away before his time while traveling to another kingdom. He got caught in a rock slide and was severely injured."
