For the past two hours we had been creating different complicated fighting and other real-world scenarios, then trying to figure out a doable solution to said scenario.
"What is the point of this?" Aster whined. It had become obvious this 'game' wasn't his forte.
"You gotta be able to come up with solutions when stuck in a sticky situation," Cam explained.
After another five minutes Aster threw his hands in the air and ran out of the living room shouting, "I give up, gods damn it."
"Temper-tantrum," I drawled.
"I see you get it though. With some more training, I might be able to put you in a real world situation."
"Eh, I don't know, maybe..."
We sat there in silence for a small period of time, just being in each other's company. Then I started feeling restless. I began squirming and fiddling with my ring, needing to go and do something.
Cam seemed to notice this, looking slightly amused. "Want to go out and walk in the woods to work off some of that excess energy?"
"Yeah, I guess that would help."
"Alright, c'mon," he said, offering me his hand after he got up.
I took his hand and he hauled me up off the ground like I was a pillow and weighed nothing.
We talked while we walked, about the small things, he told me about what the capital was like, what royal life was like.
"It sounds like you're living the life some of us only dream about," I sighed. We had walked into a pretty clearing, and kinda stopped and stood there.
"I guess so, but it gets a bit boring being there, in the castle, not really getting any social interaction."
Just then, the peculiar call of a bird came from above. I saw a shadow making its way above the tops of the trees. It breached through the leaves, headed straight records us, and I caught a glimpse of something tied to its foot.
"Ah, it's Frags," Cam muttered,"why now though?"
It landed on the closest low-hanging branch, waiting for something. I decided to go without thinking, and approached the magnificent bird. It was fairly large, its wings had to span eight feet total. The creature had black and white peppered wings and tail feathers, which blended down to a crimson chest.
I reached for the parchment tied to its leg, but it had the audacity to peck at me.
"Here, allow me," Cam said. He then proceeded to calmly step toward the bird, give it a familiar stroke on its head, and untie the paper from its foot.
I squinted my eyes at the both of them, trying to figure out... I don't know, the relationship between them?
"She is my father's familiar, and will sometimes deliver messages by paper if he doesn't wish for them to be traced by technology," he explained.
"Huh. Are you gonna read it?" I pry.
"It says, Hello, son. We will need your presence back at the palace one week before The Feast. Bring your sister back with you too. - Your Father, the King."
"What is The Feast?"
"It is... the day we celebrate the blessed and the mystics. The ordinary folk revere us, knowing we are worth more than them. But this is the one day we all eat at the same table, a sign of equality in the kingdom."
