I pant heavily with beads of sweat sliding down the side of my face. I gaze around me, at the edge of the forest. Towering trees take over my view, making me feel as if I were an ant. I snap my head around as my eyes lay on my sister who swings her nailed bat at the grey-toned woman who is missing a limb.

'We just escaped a zombie attack. Or at least I think so? Are these things even considered zombies? I mean, they're not dead. Yet.' I think to myself as I see my sister, Thali, give the final swing of the bat as the... thing... falls to the ground.

'I just witnessed a death. Again' I begin to feel my eyes water up as my sister looks towards me and runs my way, bat in hand.

'Oh god, don't cry now Juniper. You've gotta get used to this.' I sigh and look into the eyes of my sister and weakly give off a fake smile. She frowns and puts a hand on my shoulder

"I just... killed a person" she says looking me in the eyes.

"Oh, really? I didn't notice. I thought you were just having a little- a little tea party" I say sniffling a bit unable to control my emotions, but trying to lighten the mood, because I knew this would have to happen so many times in the future.

She gives off a small and weak smile towards me and places her bat in her bag, handle first to keep the bag clean.

"We need to find a place to clean our things." She says, frowning once again. I nod silently and wipe my eyes, removing the tears that never had the chance to fall.

"What about showers? And washing out clothes?" I say, grabbing a rag and wiping the sweat from my forehead. She stays silent for a moment.

"I don't thinks that's our main priority right now. We can take clothes from stores, though. I don't know about what we can do for showers." My sister says bluntly. "But we need to find shelter. We can't go home, obviously. Not after what happened there." She says looking back at her blood stained bat.

"I know, Thali. I know." I say not wanting to be on this subject now, or ever again. She slings her bag over her shoulder making sure that the bat will not fall out. We begin to walk away from our town and into the woods. I look back and the weight drops on me. I'm leaving the town I was raised in. The town I made my friends in. I'm leaving it now, too scared to ever return, yet longing to stay at the same time. I look ahead of me again and keep my gaze on the ground.

   Goodbye, Dad.
