Chapter 1: In Which Miles and Robin Make a Summer Bucket List
"Miles! Thank you for coming!"
Miles smiled as his best friend's mother pulled him in for a hug. "It's no problem, Mrs. Carter. How's Robin doing?"
"Oh, she locked herself up in her room as soon as she came home. We can't get her to come out!" Mrs. Carter cried, worriedly rubbing her arms.
"I swear!" Miles mentally jumped as Mr. Carter suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "When I get my hands on that dirty, little piece of sh-"
"David!" Mrs. Carter scolded her husband, "No crude language please."
"-trash," Mr. Carter hurriedly corrected, before roaring, "I'm gonna rip him into atoms and throw him into a garbage dump where he belongs!"
"I agree," Miles solemnly nodded. "But more importantly, may I go to Robin's room?"
"Please do," Mrs. Carter pleaded. "Hopefully, you'll have more luck getting her out."

"Robin?" Miles called, gently knocking on her door. He could hear Tamia's "Officially Missing You" playing, but he didn't hear an answer from his best friend.
"Robin?" he tried again, shaking the locked doorknob. Still, nothing.
Just as he was thinking of breaking his way in, he finally heard his friend's voice, "Go away."
Miles let out a relieved sigh. "Come on. Let me in, Robin."
"Go away," she repeated, louder this time.
"Not until you let me in." Robin didn't answer, but the door still didn't open.
Miles sighed once again as he started rummaging for the screwdriver he kept hidden in a nearby bookcase for when Robin locked herself in during hide-and-seek.
In a matter of seconds, Miles had the door open. He walked over to the bed, where Robin's hunched figure sat on the floor surrounded by piles of used tissues.
"I told you to go away," she said, her voice muffled as she kept her face buried in her hugged knees.
"We both know that was never going to happen," Miles responded, cautiously sweeping away a few tissues with his sleeve and sitting next to her.
Robin said nothing, but as Miles put an arm around her, she leaned on him.
"Officially Missing You" transitioned into some sappy Taylor Swift song and Miles' nose crinkled. He knew how Robin normally hated Taylor Swift songs. However, he didn't say anything, instead rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder.
"He broke up with me," Robin finally muttered halfway into the song. Miles said nothing and she continued, her voice broken and hoarse, "He said that things seem to be going downhill with us and it would be better if we broke things off. When I asked why he didn't want to be with me all of a sudden, I mean he would avoid me and he never seemed happy around me, h-he said..." Robin's voice broke off and she took a deep breath, hugging her knees tighter as she finished, "he loves someone else."
Miles' fist clenched by his side and he took a deep breath as a fresh wave of sobs hit Robin. "It's okay, that good for nothing piece of shit doesn't deserve you."
"It's not okay," Robin sobbed, "I thought he really loved me. I believed him when he said he would give his all to me and I-I was willing to do the same!"
Miles couldn't take it anymore. The bastard had taken his best friend's heart, left it in the clouds, then knocked it down to the ground where it broke into a million pieces while he merrily skipped away with his new girlfriend.
