Chapter 12

Today's the day. I am meeting the landlord of the Clocktower apartment. I giddily squeal while Dick comes around to my door. I slide out into my chair and he pushes me into the building as I look up at the massive clock.

He smiles at me in the elevator, "I hope you get it."

"Me too. I'm so freaking nervous." What if the landlord and I don't get along? Will I be able to afford it? I should be able to, if the price is the same as it was online.

Dick chuckles, "I'm sure you will be just fine, Babs."

How can he be so calm? They can't just give me the apartment. The door opens to the small hallway outside the lone door. There is an older man standing there in a suit with his back turned to us as we step out of the elevator.

"Hi, you must be the landlord, I'm Barbara Gordon."

"I know full well who you are, Barbara." The man smiles as he turns around.

"ALFRED?!"

He chuckles as Dick laughs with him, "Surprised? I thought you would know about Wayne Enterprise's latest acquisition to help protect Old Gotham."

I slap Dick's arm, "You knew?!"

"Oh come on, Barb, it was on the news. I find it hilarious that you didn't."

Alfred smiles widely at me, "Would you like to see your apartment?"

My jaw drops, making Dick laugh even harder, "Are you kidding me?!"

"No, I am not 'kidding', but if you want it, Bruce insisted it would be yours."

I clap excitedly, "Let's go Al!"

The door opens and my jaw drops when I see the ocean from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Hardwood floors... I maneuver around to the kitchen area, tile floors - good I'll be able to glide around easily. The counters are a little high, but I can figure a way around it. I peek around the corner to see a nice bedroom, wood floors-

"You haven't even seen the best part," Dick smiles.

"What?"

"Come on slowpoke," He laughs, ducking into a hallway.

Eager to see what else there could possibly be to this place, I turn the corner to see a makeshift ramp laid on top of a set of stairs. It's not too steep, but I still feel my stomach churn as I head through the doorway.

Instantly my breath is taken away as my eyes are glued to the beautiful sunset over the Atlantic Ocean through the clock face of the tower. This is too cool. No, this is insane!! I look around at the massive room. This could be anything!

"Come on, Barb! Over here!!" Dick calls from across the room, looking small compared to the giant minute hand towering just a few feet away. He has his hand on the big glass pane just next to the clock. "This is the best part about this place."

"I don't know how could it get any better..."

He smiles as hand pushes the glass open, pushing me out onto a stone balcony around the base of the clock... It's my spot; where I would always come to think as Batgirl, or to just watch the sunset like I am right now. I smile even wider as I close my eyes. The wind rushing through my hair, against my body; it's like none of it ever happened, like I'm just sitting up here in my Batgirl suit. I slowly open my eyes and look over at Dick, who is beaming like a kid on Christmas.

"Told ya."

I chuckle. "Recent acquisition, hmm?"

"Yeah, amazing timing, huh?"
