Chapter 15

"No, nope."

"Dick, come on..."

"Absolutely not!" He shouts as he looks at the giant box next to Alfred.

"It's a computer... just chill-"

"No! I won't chill!" He lowers his voice, since the door to the elevator is opened, "It's a freaking batcomputer."

Alfred clears his throat, pushing the box back onto the dolly, "Well, I am going to move this upstairs..."

"No you are NOT!"

"Yes he is, Dick!!" I shout back, shutting the door.

"You're putting yourself in danger, Barb... I can't let you do this..."

"Dick, you forget that I chose this life years ago, and you know I've always enjoyed a little danger."

He chuckles, but I know he still doesn't agree.

I sigh, "Look at me, Dick... I have to do something... I have to keep busy and the only way-"

"Is to pick up where you left off... continue fighting..."

"Yeah... just in a different way."

If I don't, I will just end up sitting here most of the night listening to the maniacal laughter in my head... but I won't tell him that. He catches my gaze as the sound plagues my mind; his eyes shifting from fear and worry to understanding. He knows how traumatized I still am.

"Barb," He calls, putting his hand on my cheek. It shuts the voice up. "if it's what you really want... then I'd hate to keep you from it."

I smile, leaning into his hand slightly, "Thank you."

He smirks, "BUT I will be here frequently to check up on you."

I frown, "I don't need a babysitter!"

"Yes you do!"

"No, I don't!"

"Yahuh."

"Nuhuh."

"You do and you know it." I backhand him in the chest, making him chuckle. "Ooooh... did I hit a nerve?"

"Shut up..."

"I know you did because that stung!"

I bite my lip trying not to laugh, "You really need to work on your jokes, Grayson."

"I thought it was funny."

"Exactly."

He winces, "Ouch... not cool, Gordon, not cool..."

"Since when have I been cool?"

"Uh..."

"Exactly."

"Hey! Wait I was thinking!"

"Children," Alfred's voice shouts over us.

"Yes, Alfred?" Both of us say obediently, like we were twelve again.

"It appears you have some company..."

This catches us off guard, but Dick is the one to speak first, "You don't mean like rats or roaches or something, right? Cause I err... Barb should not have to live in those conditions-"

"Aw... trying to pass your fears off for my well being, how sweet of you-"

Alfred clears his throat, shutting us both up... until Dick chuckles. "Is there something you find funny, Mister Grayson?"
