She stood outside the large tower that was looming over her, looking as if it was about to swallow her. She didn't want to go in, all instincts told her that she was going to make things worse but something inside of her also told her that she needed to do this. She took a deep breath, and walked to the reception desk, trying to maintain an air of confidence. The lady at the desk recognised her immediately and let her through. The elevator lift seemed to take seconds compared to the eternity it normally takes and before she knew it, Kara was weaving through the maze of office desks to her dads own office at the back. There she saw him scribbling something on a post it note and she knocked on the door. Through the glass pane she saw him look up and a look of joy ran through his eyes before his cold, hard sneer from before reappeared on his face. He beckoned with his finger for her to come in and she opened the door; her whole body was shaking as she closed it and went to sit down. She opened her mouth but her dad held up his hand to signal her to stop.
"Are you sure you're you know..." her dad asked - nodding at the end to signal her to speak
"Gay," Kara exclaimed with a certain harshness, "Yes I'm gay and I'm proud." She couldn't believe this strong voice that was coming out of her mouth.
"Well then, I guess that's that." he said and got on with his work. He turned to his daughter and said in a condescending way, "off you go."
"Are you coming home?" Kara asked her dad
He looked up at her, the bags under his eyes showing signs of sleeplessness from the night before.
"Yes, I'll bring my suitcase back tonight."
Lily walked home, the rush of the wind being the only noise surrounding her. She thought back to the memory this morning and creolised it in her mind, only this time she continued.
She ran to Kara's house, they'd gone up to Kara's bedroom and without a word she slammed Kara's door, the vibrations adding to the tense atmosphere she had created. She told Kara everything. She liked her, a lot, she had come to terms with the fact she was gay. She remembered how outspoken she was, not even sure that Kara was gay but putting it out there anyway because she trusted her. After she let it all out Kara had sat there for a moment, shock expressed vividly on her face. Kara stood up and walked towards her, in that split second Lily thought Kara was going to slap her but then she felt the warmth of Kara's lips pressed against hers and the magical feeling she had. That was the first time she had ever kissed a girl, and it was the kiss that changed her life.
Lily smiled as she opened the gate at the front of her house as the memories that now flooded her brain reminded her of how nerve racking it was to confess her feelings. Now it was natural.
Kara walked through the door, her smile the largest it had been that day. Her mother wasn't home yet but due shortly so she put on the cooker and decided to make her special pasta bake. A tradition that her parents loved. As an only child she normally made dinner as her parents worked a lot but over the past few months they hadn't been working as much and she hadn't made the pasta bake for ages. Just as she was about to put the pasta in the oven to cook, her mum swept through the door in a flurry of folders and went straight through to the kitchen to slam them down on the table. She gave a small smile to her daughter then, spying the pasta on the side asked,
"Pasta bake? What's the occasion?"
"I spoke to Dad,"
Her mum's face dropped, her eyes welling up.
"What did he say?"
"He's coming home."
Her mums face lit up with a huge grin. They both had a little cry of happiness and hugged each other. Then her mother looked at her and said,
"If anything happens, I won't let him hurt you Kara."
Lily checked her phone as soon as it pinged, was Kara okay? She looked at the screen but it was just a low battery reminder. She frowned and plugged it in with a sigh, what was going on? Another ping went off and Lily rushed to the phone, it was Kara. She heaved a sigh of relief and read the short message:
I am so sorry babe went to see dad he's coming home see you 2morrow. K x
Lily had a massive smile, she was so happy for her. She ran dos fairs to inform her parents of the fantastic news and everybody was happy. Lily texted back then saying:
That's great Kara I'm so happy for you! See you at school.

Kara took out the steaming pasta out of the oven when he came in. Her dad carried the suitcase through the door and walked upstairs without a word. "Hi dad!" Kara shouted
No reply, what was going on? She looked at her mum and they both frowned. They rushed upstairs, silent, while they both thought about what they were going to say. They burst in to find him packing more clothes, his face relaxed but hard. Kara then realised her father wasn't coming back home. That he never had any intention of coming back. He brought his suitcase to pack more clothes. To leave.
