"The story of Omelas is absolutely inspiring and intertwining its themes with our music would be quite perfect harmony."
It was a few hours before the filming of their new music video, Spring Day, and the BTS members were discussing about the concept ideas put forth by their staff. Although the other six boys of the group were interested, they prepared themselves to blank out on their leader's upcoming philosophical rant.
"Omelas is a fictional place where it's like a utopia, filled with laughter and living carefree with no one to enforce rules on you."
"Seems like my kind of place," the maknae, Jungkook, smiled contently.
"However," the intellectual leader frowned, "it's a place of false happiness. The kids who live their seem to be having fun but there's something missing in their lives that they're unsure of. In the end, the kids decide to leave their innocence behind and enter the real world where they can fight and work for their own happiness, even if it means going through struggles. That's the whole idea of growing up, leaving the safe haven behind and looking forward with a new ambitious, mature mindset. But they're not alone...thus connecting with our album name 'You Never Walk Alone'." Rap Monster clapped his hands with a satisfied smile and sat back against the couch. "It's genius if you ask me."
"We didn't ask you," Suga responded in monotone with his eyes closed as usual.
Rap Monster chuckled, "Not gonna lie, it wasn't my idea. One of our new MV concept artist pitched the idea, that's how she got the job. I'm excited to meet her, I want to ask about the book."
Jungkook cleared his throat, "Nerd alert!"
Jimin laughed and playfully hit the younger. "Let's just look at the concept maps."
But only six heads were gathered around the iPad while one of them was slightly distant from them. Taehyung didn't make an effort to squeeze between them to look at the iPad, but he still was aware what was going on. He just didn't care for the details right now.
He wasn't wearing any earbuds, but a short melody was constantly playing through his head, each note and lyric reminding him of why he wrote it in the first place.
Remember that Spring Day, don't forget it
To the members and ARMY, it's about a spring day. But to Taehyung, it's about one very special summer day he will never forget about.
Remember your dreams, don't give up
They had different dreams to begin with anyway. She wanted to finish college and get a degree in business and fashion designing. Meanwhile, he was already successful with his band and wanted to continue his music with them. They told each other to stay strong in their tough, back-breaking industries, that they would support each other in spirit.
But for Taehyung, he was never really good with long distance between him and another he cared for.
I'm fallin' you, I'm fallin'
That day when they were supposed to say goodbye at the airport, it was possibly the most regretful thing he's done: not responding when they made eye contact, not mouthing the word "bye", not smiling at her one last time.
His usual cheeriness and goofiness fell for quite some time after that, even though he put on a happy mask in public to not worry others.
He really felt like breaking.
'Cause maybe for your love
Taehyung finally admitted after that goodbye...that maybe the reason why he wanted her to be by his side all the time, to talk to her, to make her laugh, to wipe away her tears, to lift each other up when one of them is down...was that...
