I spotted Krissy in the back of the lecture hall, a Starbucks cup in one perfectly manicured hand and her iPhone in the other. Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but think she embodied a basic, white sorority girl perfectly, but headed back to my normal seat next to her.
"Hey Big," I said, sinking into my chair and pulling my laptop out of my bag. She glanced up from her phone, taking a swig from her drink.
"Lanie," she said, giving me a disapproving glare. I nervously shook my blonde hair over my shoulder, giving her a sheepish look.
"What did I do now?"
"Yesterday was ladies' night at the bar and someone wasn't there even though they promised." She was still glaring, but it was softening up into a grin. Krissy was my best friend, and we both loved to go out and take full advantage of our youth. As sorority girls, we always knew about every party going on – if someone didn't tell us personally, one of our DZ sisters texted about it in a group chat.
"We have a huge test today – I needed to study. That, and a new episode of Grey's Anatomy was on. You know how much I love Jackson Avery," I smirked.
Krissy sighed. "You didn't miss anything; one of the Sigma Chi's was hammered ten minutes after I got there and started a fight with the bartender, so they kicked everyone out early."
"Well it's a frat party Friday, so we'll make up for it tonight. I just bought a new bottle of Cruzan and need to crack it open."
Krissy was about to respond, but was interrupted by the professor walking in and calling everyone to attention. She didn't wait around, immediately passing out the tests.
One mentally exhausting hour later, Krissy and I were headed back to the sorority house where we lived, different variations of Delta Zeta painted on the sidewalk leading our way.
"So where do you wanna go tonight?" I asked, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge.
"I say Theta Chi. They always have good parties. Tonight is an ABC party too – you know I love those." I rolled my eyes. Any excuse for Krissy to wear a limited amount of clothes is a great time to her.
"I'm down."
At 9 that night we were wearing outfits made out of duct tape and garland left over from Christmas. I tugged at my garland skirt, wishing Krissy hadn't insisted on not wearing a pair of spandex underneath because "Delanie, spandex is clothes, and this is Anything But Clothes, hello."
The Theta Chi house was only two blocks away, and after walking one block I could already hear the music pumping, Post Malone's voice cutting through the air.
"Hurry, they're playing Posty, you know how much I love Posty," Krissy shrieked. I took another swig from my water bottle filled with rum and hurried after her, my duct tape shirt rubbing me under the arms uncomfortably.
The house was packed to the brim and people were fighting their way to get in. Krissy walked right to the front of the line, getting dirty looks all the way, flipped her brown hair over her shoulder, and flashed her most flirtatious smile at the freshman who was standing at the door. He turned bright red and stepped aside, letting us step through without handing over the $10 cover charge, much to the chagrin of the group that had been waiting. Krissy might be cocky, but she got what she wanted.
Immediately we rounded to the drink table, scoping the options. A cooler of jungle juice sat in the middle of the table and multiple bottles of liquor surrounded it. I tried not to think about the fact that they probably hadn't cleaned the cooler out before they started pouring bottles in as I filled a cup.
