ALICE CULLEN
The scene unfolds before me, like a high-speed car. One second I'm skipping, fluttering through the house, and the next I'm standing in the middle of a forest. The air is sickeningly tart with the scent of pine and moss and the fresh water of a lake about sixty miles away. It irritates my senses and clouds my head just a bit as I try to find what's brought me here.
I had been looking for nothing in particular—the stock market, upcoming fashion trends, a timeframe for when we'd have to leave Forks again—when it comes crashing into my mind, and it's Emmett I notice first.
He had never been the fastest in the coven, but now, none of us could compare. The playful nature of his features has been entirely eviscerated leaving only determination and will and fear. So much fear.
"Stay with me," his voice is strained through his clenched teeth, and his eyes are onyx black. "Stay with me, stay with me. You're going to be alright."
I can see us a ways behind him, and there's a funny flutter that calls to my attention, but not as much as the mouth-watering scent that begins to overwhelm my being. The venom accumulates in my mouth, and my teeth bare just slightly, I feel the muscles in my legs coil readying for me to spring. To devour. There's a part of me—that's taken on the guise of Carlisle—which tells me, there is too much good in you to lose control, and the other which urges me to give in to my instincts.
Human habit causes me to swallow saliva, though it does nothing for the raging thirst. Looking down, I find the source of my thirst in Emmett's arms, and it's like a horrible, horrible car wreck I cannot take my eyes off of.
Dark blood has coated the girl from head to toe—it's thick and painted onto her pale skin, matted into her blonde hair, and soaked thoroughly into her clothes—even still it doesn't detract from her beauty. Heart shaped face, thin nose and full lips. Her shockingly blue eyes are glazed over, yet somehow still trained on Emmett as he carries her. I watch as her fingers twitch and from her shell-pink lips comes a chocked groan of, "Emmett."
"Stay with me." Emmett grits again and again through clenched teeth. I can feel his hunger in my bone-dry throat. Feel how much focus it's taking him not to give into his own demons tempting him to feast on the bloody beauty.
Then, it's gone, and I'm standing in the present once more. The sweet music from the piano fills my ears again. Rosalie is wrapped around Emmett who is too busy watching a game and Jasper is at my side. Having sensed my emotion of panic and thirst, arm around my waist. "Alice," Edward calls, but I'm too focused on trying to locate the vision to answer.
Trying to decipher when this was going to take place, and most importantly, who this girl was. I could hear future Emmett's fear-filled voice haunting my conscience. "Stay with me."
Looking to Edward, I know immediately he's already seen what was in my head as well. Seen it and was just as confused as I was. One thing was for sure, this girl was going to be trouble.
