Dear Diary,

Hello There. I'm Brooke Hyland, but you probably already know that. Everyone else does..

I found this diary in my room while I was emptying out my closet. Well, want to know why?

I'm moving.. Without my parents.. Into foster care.

It's a long story.. But I'm sure you have time. Just like everyone else.

It all started one day when Paige & Josh came home from a party late.

"WHAT WERE YOU DOING?", My dad yelled at them.

He was definitely drunk. He smelled like smoke too.

Joshua quickly grabbed Paige's arm and brought her into his side and kept her right up next to him.

He stammered, "Um.. We were at a party. It went a little late and we had to walk home." Josh was telling the truth.

"LIAR"

Paige started to say "he's really.." But josh clapped his hand over her mouth.

My dad balled his hands into a fist and punched Paige.

I ran upstairs to go find my mom, but I couldn't find her.

When I came back downstairs, I ran up to them and joined them in a group hug and asked, "What happened?

Paige was crying so hard she couldn't speak, so Joshua answered for her. "He punched us. Both of us. Hard. He just stormed out the door. We don't know where mom is, but we're assuming he punched her too.

I just balled up on the floor crying. Josh rubbed my back, as he was still engaged in a hug with Paige. I was supposed to be the strongest one mentally and physically. I am the oldest.

This wasn't like my dad. He never drank more than one alcoholic beverage per week, and NEVER smoked before in his life.

I knew at that moment, that our life was about to turn into a living hell.

We all sat down at the kitchen table and decided we needed to do something.

"There are no parents, no responsible adults here right now, and I think our first step is to go somewhere where we can be with a trusted parent.", I said.

"I think that we should go to Chloe's house", Paige said.

Why didn't I think of that? Chloe's house was walking distance, and Christi was like a second mother to all of us, and we could tell her everything when we got there.

"Let's do it." I said. Josh nodded.

Our walk to the Lukasiak's house was silent, with the exception of our quiet sobs. And our spoken aloud thoughts and panics of where our mother was.

We knew the way by heart. We knocked on the door, and it opened, and standing there was..

Our mother.
