William watched with caution and gritted teeth as blood dripped upon the pavement. The woman had pressed her body far into the corner, gripping the end of the broken chain attached to her cufflinks. Her palms dug into rusted metal that had blood dripping down it.
He turned his gaze slightly, and at the door guards held out their spears, edging them towards the girl. To restrain the girl, one of the guards had gone to fetch some chains. William gripped his shoulder, feeling his warm blood seep through his fingers. His men shouted as they held their spears closer to her, pushing the girl deeper into the corner.
William felt his arm tug. His men were trying to guide him out of the cell. But his focus remained on the red-headed girl, watching her frail state continue to fight, even when she had no odds against them. He finally moved to the door. His eyes still strained on the woman.
Her calloused fingers scratched at the bricks, attempting to pull herself from the ground. With a trembling body, she held the broken chain closer to her. The men reached out to her, one by one, taking hold of her and pushing her towards the ground.
A man returned, chains wrapped in his arms. He fixed them to the wall, while the woman clawed at the men, attempting to pull them off. The guard attached the cufflink to her wrist, just slightly below the one with the broken chain.
William's eyes widen with shock as she began to slam her wrist against the wall. Each time was harder than the last. It was only until he saw the blood that he realized he needed to act.
"Stop her before she breaks her wrist!" he commanded as he attempted to get back inside the cell. His men kept making sure he stayed out.
One of the men tore off a piece of his maroon tunic and wrapped it tightly around her arms. The woman lashed out for the man, attempting to grab his legs. He jumped back, and quickly left the cell.
Will placed his head against the bar, as a sigh left him. He lifted it, and slowly began to close the cell door. Pulling out the key, he turned it into the lock, and a loud clicking sound echoed through the halls.
For a brief moment, he closed his eyes and opened them to find the woman's green eyes staring back at him. When he looked closer, she merely clicked her tongue and turned her head.
"Imir save me," she whispered. "Please, save me."
Slowly, the men had left the scene, returning to their original posts. But, William remained. He stood before the door, soaking in the woman. A fighting spirit that had crumbled into nothing.
She bit at the cloth knotted around her wrist, grumbling something under her breath as she continued to do so. He stepped away from the cell and placed the ring of keys around his belt.
The sound of footsteps filled his ears. He turned away from the cell and noticed the brute woman, Joan, strolling towards him. He rolled his eyes and he gritted his teeth. Turning his body, he placed his hands behind his back and straightened his posture.
