Alice's P.O.V
We kept walking the walls of the facility. We saw broken doors, claw marks on broken doors. Maybe the facility was mainly meant to keep something in rather than keeping intruders out.
More importantly we saw blood. A lot of it.
I saw vials, picked one up and asked them, "What do you think is in it?" They shrugged.
Dean walked into a chamber with vials in containers on either side. Meanwhile we found a computer surprisingly not damaged. Max turned it on and a hologram of a girl with straight, black hair, wearing a white dress appeared in front of us.
"Hello, I am an artificial intelligence known as the white queen," it said to us.
"Well at least she may be of help," Jessie said.
I asked her, "Do you know what happened here and how we're the only ones here?"
She responded. "Dr.Isaac was a young scientist working for this corporation. He had a twelve year old daughter who was suffering from an illness, an illness that caused her to age indefinetly and uncontrollably each day; by the time she was thirty she had the face and body of a ninety year old. He recorded her voice, her likeness which he used to design me. He was determined to save her so he finally created a cure that finds and repairs all dead cells in the body. Soon she recovered. It was then later used by people to cure any illness and there were hardly any disease outbreaks. The corporation gained millions in products."
"So how does that explain what happened here?" John asked gesturing to the chaos around us.
"The scientists called it the T-virus. Although it was the world's cure, they found out that it had some side effects."
"What kind of side effects?" I asked her.
"First breathing complications then heartbeat stops. Then the skin appears gray and cracked. Then the victims end up as zombies. Mindless creatures with only instincts to feed on human life."
"So after that the scientists left?" Max asked. I looked back at Dean, he was still inspecting the vials.
"Precisely. The virus got out. It was almost impossible to destroy it as it adapted to its surroundings, from water to air to blood. Eventually it had spread all over the world."
We looked at each other thinking the same thing. Is there anywhere that's zombie free?
The white queen continued. "They tried to create a cure by injecting the T-virus into test subjects then monitoring their reactions to different experimentations but only ended up creating mutations, creatures with certain abilities."
If that didn't scare us then what she said next certainly did it.
"Just like the one that was left locked up in this facility."
"Wait what do you mean?" Jessie asked looking a bit uneasy and I don't blame her.
"One of the creatures was left here in a maximum security room after killing most if the workers, but with the power to part of the facility down it is likely that it broke its way out. They called it Licker."
Lexi giggled a bit at the name.
"So this...Thing, could be here any minute to rip us apart?!" Jessie exclaimed. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's find a way out!"
The hologram answered her, "The only way out is through an underground tunnel at the end of the facility past the western ward."
"So past the room and basically where the creature could be." Lexi said.
"Yes."
Lexi put her arms up in defeat. "Well that's it then."
The white queen told us that there is another facility in Los Angeles where they have developed the antidote and we're in New York. They are in vials, blue for the virus and green for the antidote.
Then out of the blue we hear a sort of whirring sound. We looked about the room trying to find the source. We hear Dean calling to us and looked in his direction. He was locked in the chamber he was in and looked frightened. I saw a laser being activated in the chamber. He saw it, it was moving towards him but was low. He jumped over it. Then another one came this time at chest level. He grabbed a bar that was overhead and pulled himself up and escaped the laser just barely. He jumped down. He waited anxiously if another would come and it did. It was a low one again so he just jumped before it reached him but it was a trick laser; it went up at the last second and sliced him in half. I covered my mouth in horror.
There lay the remains of what once was Dean.
I looked towards the AI. "What just happened!"
"The security system came back online."
"Damn!" John said looking away.
We felt the remorse but we knew we had to keep moving.
We gathered our stuff and started walking in the direction the White Queen had indicated. I walked ahead. We passed broken equipment further down the hall. I heard a groan and held up my hand indicating to stop. I spotted a trail of black blood leading to a dark room. We saw something, heard something eating something. We inched closer and regretted our decision. Wat we saw must have been the creature the AI warned us about. It turned around as if it sensed us and we saw it clearly and it saw us. And that's bad.
"Run!!" I shouted and ran out with my team following behind me.We stopped and took cover in a vacant room behind a desk. We were panting and had our weapons ready to use. I looked around and realized something.
"Wait where's Jess?"
