I woke up before Mitch the next morning, smiling as I saw how peaceful and adorable he looked. I then noticed Preston peering into the room, looking from Mitch to me, and giving me a wink before beckoning for me to follow him. I got up, amazed that I hadn't disturbed the Bajan, and followed him downstairs.
"When did Mitch get here?" he chuckled.
"Late last night, after I dropped you off here. I went for a walk, and found Mitch sitting on a bench. Mike was having a party, so Mitch just left." I explained.
"Ahh, I see." Preston nodded. "I'm glad things are working out between you and Mitch. Maybe our plan is working after all." he smiled.
I wondered how genuinely happy Preston was for me.
"Maybe it is." I chuckled.
"So... are you gonna be busy with him all day?" he asked.
"I don't think so. His parents are probably pissed at him by now for leaving in the middle of the night." I shrugged.
"Oh, damn." he winced. "I hope they don't ground him or something."
"Me too." I sighed. He looked at the clock.
"Hey, you gotta go to school soon." he stated.
"It's Saturday." I giggled.
"Oh, right." he chuckled. I then remembered, there was a dance coming up. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask Preston.
"Hey Preston, do you maybe wanna go to the school dance with me? I mean, I know you don't go to my school, but it'd still be fun, and people probably know I'm gay by now...." I rambled.
"Of course, Jerome." he giggled. "One of the things I miss the most about public schools is the dances. it should be fun." he grinned. I beamed, relief filling me as I hugged him. I don't know why I was so nervous about asking him, but now that it was done and over with, I was happy.
Preston smiled, wrapping his arms securely around me. "Thanks for asking, Jerome." he murmured.
"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't ask you to the dance?" I smirked.
"You're right. You have an obligation." he teased. I just grinned, kissing him. I was getting used to kissing him, and I actually enjoyed it. I wanted to kiss him.
"I gotta go out and pick up a game I pre-ordered. Wanna come with me?" I asked once we'd broken the kiss
"I gotta study some more." he sighed. "And besides, someone has to be here to keep Mitch company when he wakes up." he smiled.
"Right." I chuckled. "See you later, then." I smiled, grabbing my wallet off the table and exiting the house. I had just entered the city when someone stopped me.
"Jerome?" It was a young boy, about 15, but he already had striking features, what with his blond hair and blue eyes. But I wasn't looking for a 15 year old boyfriend.
"Uh... yeah?" I mumbled.
"You're losing him." he murmured.
"Excuse me?" I asked, confused.
"Mitch. you're focusing too much on Preston. I know you don't truly love him." he stated.
"Of course I love him." I mumbled.
"You don't. Mitch is the one for you, Jerome. Preston isn't. You're going out of your way to make Preston happy, and in doing so, you're letting Mitch go." he insisted.
"Who are you?" I asked frustratedly.
"Andrew Williams." he murmured simply.
"Well, I don't think you should get involved in my relationship." I snapped, storming off. I made my way into a coffee shop for a much needed coffee. once I'd sat down, I absently scanned the front page of a newspaper on the table. My heart nearly stopped.
Teenage Suicide Discovered
Andrew Williams, age 16, was found dead in his bedroom Sunday morning. His death was caused by an overdose of over-the-counter pain medication. His final request, as written by Andrew himself, was to have his suicide note published.
"Dear Derek:
I made a mistake. I let him go. You, Derek. I should never have tried to make you jealous. In doing so, I lost you, to her. I hope you two are happy. I really do. You deserve the best in life. And I couldn't make that happen. She could. So I cut myself out of your life. To end not just my pain, but so I wouldn't be your burden anymore. I'm sorry Derek. I wish I had just told you outright how I felt. I'm sorry. I love you."
