*Ring Ring!*
My alarm sounded as it went off. Thinking I hit the snooze button, I accidentally hit the off button.
"I'll just let it wake me up in another five minutes." I said to my self wearily.
I began to hear someone shouting my name, but my hearing was muffled. But it starting getting clearer until I realized I overslept thirty minutes, and my mom was yelling at me to get up.
"Carla! Do you know what goddamn time it is? You're late for school!"
"What?" I said groggily.
"It's 9:30! Get your ass up and put your clothes on. You'll either have to skip breakfast or eat an apple in the car."
Sometimes I feel as if my mom genuinely doesn't like me. I try with her, I really do, but her patience just isn't at the same level as mine.
I finally got dropped off to spend an agonizing seven hours at school. The worst part is, I don't have many friends. Just one, and she's been there for me since the beginning. Her name is Brandi. She's the sweetest person you'll meet, though she does get her self into a lot of trouble.
After I got picked up from school, my mom and I went to go get my little sister Amy from day care.
"Stay in the car while I get Amy." my mom said.
"Okay.." I said hesitantly.
About five minutes after my mom left, I saw a man exit a store, but he didn't go to his car. Instead he began strangely roaming the parking lot, passing my car multiple times and occasionally peeking through the window. I began finding him a bit sketchy, and slumped down in my chair making it harder for him to see me.
As he was about to come in the direction of my car again, that's when my mom came in with Amy in her hand, causing him to turn around. Thank God, he was really scaring me.
"Carla buckle your sister in." my mom said after putting Amy in her car seat.
"Uh, mom. When you were getting Amy I-"
"One second Carla, I have to take this." I was interrupted by her ringing cellphone.
"Okay." I sighed and rested my hand on my chin and stared out the window. At times, she doesn't really want to hear what I have to say.
Once I got home, ate dinner, and washed up, I jumped into bed and called Brandi.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Hey Bran! What's up?" I said.
"Nothing really.." she said strangely.
"What's all that noise in the background? I asked.
"Oh.. there's just a bunch of people in my house talking. Hey I'll talk to you later okay? Bye!" she said quickly ending the call. Well that was strange.
I really wanted to tell Brandi about what happened today when my mom went to get Amy, so I just sent her a text.
'hey.. wanted to tell u something about this weird guy earlier today. text me back!'
Once I pressed 'enter', it said that the message was sent, but not delivered. Which means Brandi either turned off her phone or blocked my number. Something really weird is going on with her, and I wanted to know.
My thoughts were interrupted by a subtle knock on my door, and my gorgeous mother entering wearing a red cocktail dress.
"Hey honey. Remember my date is tonight, so I'm off. Put your sister to bed in half an hour and don't stay up too late. Night!" she said then quickly left closing the door behind her.
She's always going on a date with a new guy every other week. It pisses me off to be honest. My mom is a very.. Well, how do I say this without sounding rude. She's a very promiscuous lady. Yeah, that's it.
Just then, I heard the house phone ring. I went down stairs stepping over Amy's stupid toys she was always playing with, and answered.
"Hello?" I answered.
All I heard on the other line was a quiet breathing.
"Hello?" I asked again, stretching out the 'O'.
"I'm gonna get you soon."
I heard a raspy voice finally whisper.
"What? Who's this?" I asked shakily.
"I'm gonna make you mine." The voice
said again. It was a man's. The line then went flat and he hung up. I slowly put the telephone back on the receiver and backed away from it slowly, my heart beating a mile a minute.
I started running around the house locking all the doors and windows, and turning off all the lights.
"Hey!" Amy whined in the darkness.
"It's bedtime." I strained as I picked her up. She's pretty damn heavy for a three-year-old.
"But I not tired!" she complained.
"And I don't care." I shot back, placing her in her crib. I turned on her night light and played her lullaby music that was connected to it and went to my room.
I decided to keep my light on as I was going to bed, getting under the comforter since I was scared out of my life. I've never gotten a call like that before, and my heart was still pounding out of my chest. Maybe it was just a prankcall, right? Yeah, it had to be.
I then saw my phone vibrate on my side table and slowly picked it up. I felt a big wave of relief wash over me when I saw that it was just a text from Brandi. But it was quite strange.
'Don't text back this number, or call. Ever.'
What? I've never been so confused. Why wouldn't Brandi want me to call or text her? This day has been too weird, and I just want it to end. I slowly drifted to sleep within the next 20 minutes, fear still running through my body.
Author's note- This is the first chapter of my second book, and I think it's gonna come out really good! I can't wait to continue it and for you guys to see what happens next. (Picture of Carla in the side bar)
