"You have got to wear this one," Ava said excitedly on Saturday afternoon. Aunt Kerstin was working until 11 and Jay was out with friends, so Ava was watching Emma. Emma and I were seated on my bed while Ava was looking through my closet trying to find an outfit for my date with Parker.
"No, not that one. It looks too ugly," said Emma from beside me, making both Ava and I chuckle.
"You heard the boss, pick a different one," I ordered to Ava making Emma nod her head. Ava turned back to my closet and pulled out another dress a few seconds later. I turned to look at Emma's reaction, and laughed when I saw the look of disgust on her face.
"Definitely not. Whenever mommy goes on a date, she dresses casual. She says that you should never dress up on the first date. Use your heads." The sass filled words of wisdom that came from my little cousin made Ava and I start laughing again.
"Well if you know so much about dates," Ava replied, "why don't you come pick out an outfit yourself." Emma hopped off of the bed and walked over to the closet with her nose in the air. She used her hands to shoo Ava away, then began to rummage through my clothes.
Ava and I shared a look of amusement at Emma's attitude, but we let her look. After a couple minutes Emma reappeared holding a pair of blue jeans and an off the shoulder black top.
"These are the clothes. Go and try them on."
I shrugged my shoulders, grabbed the clothes then headed to the bathroom. When I returned, I got approving looks from both Ava and Emma.
"I'm impressed, Emaline! You've got awesome taste!" Ava says to Emma while hugging her.
Emma giggles then replies "I've just spent a lot of time helping mommy. Plus, Olivia is really pretty, so she can make almost anything look nice." She whispered the last part to Ava, but I still heard it. I smiled down at Emma and I gave her a big hug.
"Thanks sweetie! I wouldn't have been able to do this without you!" I plop a big kiss on her cheek then stand up. I pull my phone out of my purse, which is on my bed, then I check the time. It reads 6:53 and I immediately feel butterflies in my stomach.
This is my first really date in a long time, and it's really making me nervous. Ava seems to notice my sudden mood change, and she wraps a hug around me.
"I don't know why you are so nervous for this, but I can assure you that you shouldn't be. You are beautiful and an amazing person. He is going to love you."
I smile at her encouraging words. Then I feel someone poking my leg. I look down and see Emma holding a pair of me old sandals with rhinestones on them. I grab them from her then slip them onto my feet.
It's then that we hear the doorbell ring. The 3 of us grab our things from my room then walk downstairs. As I get closer to the front entrance my stomach begins to fill with butterflies. I'm not doing too bad, though, considering I haven't been on a date in a long time.
