Tuesday December 6
I woke up feeling my sheets were wet. I shivered as I carefully got out bed. I realized that I had peed all over my bed sometime during the night. My heat dropped I remembered my dream—or rather nightmare. I remembered being in the school parking lot and trying to survive. I remember looking at my reflection and seeing Alana. I remember watching her die. She spent her last moments so terrified and confused. She wondered what she did to deserve this fate. "Alana," I whispered in despair.
"Yo! Biggie. You're fucking late," JT announced, bursting into my room. I opened my mouth to respond, only to be cut off by my phone ringing. "Hello?" I choked out, answering the call. "Bianca? Are you okay?" a voice asked, their voice cracking on every vowel. "Who is this?" I asked. "It's Jay. I wanted to check on you." I sighed. "I don't care about you and Minji. Screw her and you." I looked at my brother as he stood in my doorway, tapping his foot with sass. "But, I need you." Jay took a moment to answer. "For?" He hopefully asked. I peered out my window, look over at his driveway. He stood next to his car, about to unlock it. "A ride. I'm late to school and I see you are as well," I responded. "He looked up at my window, leaning over to adjust his view to wave. "Of course! Anytime, but I have to pick up Minji," he said wiping his forehead. I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Naturally," I murdered feeling defeated. "Whatever. I'll be down in 15," I added. "Take all the time you need. I'll go get her now." I rolled my eyes, ending the call without saying another word. "I gotta wash my sheets. Get out," I snapped. "Woah. My bad, Cruella," My brother joked. I bit my tongue, picking up a shoe off my floor and throwing it at him. He quickly closed my door, allowing the shoe bounce off my door.
Jay had parked in my driveway with Minji by his side in the front seat. She angrily crossed her arms as she argued with him. I adjusted my backpack, dreading the awful car ride I was about to endure. "Morning," I murmured. "Hey, B. You look so cute," Minji said in a sweet voice. "Aww. Bite me," I replied, mocking her tone. "Fair enough. I just want to start over. I am so sorry for how things went down. I just hope we can be friends again. It hasn't even been a day and I miss you." I noticed how she hadn't brushed a piece of hair behind her ear. Her eyes were soft and almost glassy. I sighed, lightly nodding as I crossed my arms. Jay sat in the driver's seat, silent. "You can have him," I said to her. "Drive." Jay started the car as we all played the quiet game. Halfway to the school, he turned on the radio as the morning news had begun. "Tragedy has struck Glendale, California after the body of sixteen year old Alana Alohi was found late last night at Hemingway Academy. State Police have confirmed the student was found in the parking lot minutes after the murder," the anchor announced. "Oh, my God," I said out loud. "What?" Jay asked. "Turn it up," I said ignoring his question. He complied, sending Minji a quick look in the process. "Police say the killer had chased Alohi around the perimeter of the school and through the parking lot before stabbing her the kidney and abdomen. The killer fled minutes before the police had arrived." I leaned forward, turning off the news report. "Oh, my God," I repeated. "I know. That's... horrible," Minji said with a low voice. "Do you know her?" Jay asked, looking at me through the rear view mirror. "Not really. We had a class together," I said quickly. "I knew her. I hooked up with her back in freshman year to get back at Spliff. I never even called her after that," Minji confessed. "I can't believe this," I began. "It seems so random. Why would some guy just stab a high school girl? Shit is crazy," Jay said, making a left turn. "Is school even happening? I mean the parking lot is now a crime scene," Minji pointed out. She was right. As we pulled into the student parking lot, cop cars and news reporters swarmed around the light blue Volkswagen Beetle blocked off by yellow police tape. A pool of blood within a tape outline of where Alana lost her life caught my eye. I gagged, almost vomiting in Jay's car. "Yo! Are you okay?" Jay said, noticing my sudden nausea. "I need to go," I said, jumping out of the car and towards the the school. Jay huffed as he realized I left the door open. "She left the door open," he whined.
