The car stops abruptly, waking me from my sleep. I don't know what happened on the ride here, all I know is that it was long as hell and I slept through it all.
Sarion wakes up too, rubbing his eyes and yawning. Micah looks back at us and smiles, putting the car back into drive.
"I just stopped cuz you two need to wake up and talk. I can't stand the quiet" she laughs
Sarion shoots her a dirty look but gets up anyway, pulling a bag of chips from his jacket pocket. I've learned not to question how he always has some sort of snack on him, I just go with it at this point.
"Where are we?" I ask, looking around as Micah drives. All I see is trees and dead grass.
"We are in what is known as No Mans Land, or home of the Kids In The Dark" she pulls the old Ford up to a small forest in front of us and parks.
"Go ahead and grab your stuff. We walk from here."
Sarion begins to grumble only half jokingly, but we both grab our things and follow Micah. She leads us in a curved line through the trees until we reach a fence and a gate with the words "The Kids In The Dark" painted on it.
"Here we are!" She exclaims as Sarion and I approach, taking everything in. The entire place is fenced off with high chain link fencing, and there are dogs roaming around the perimeter, presumably to guard (even though they did nothing when we arrived). Inside the fence is a multitude of RVs, situated like houses in a suburb; they sit in neat rows, about 6 rows of 10.
A woman appears seemingly out of nowhere and steps in front of us. She is young, but much older than us. She is muscular and intimidating as hell. Sarion and I do our best to hide behind Micah.
"Micah! Who are they?" the woman demands
"New recruits, ma'am." Micah replies with a grin "this is my brother, Sarion and his friend Christa"
The woman looks at us as if trying to weigh our usefulness, the nods to herself. "That's why you've been working on that second RV..." she mutters, more to herself than to Micah.
Sarion smiles up at her and she shoots him a grin.
"Thank you Fletch" she says, glancing back at the woman. Fletch leaves in one swift motion and heads to a group of women, no older than mid 20s, standing a few yards away. She says a few words to them and a couple of them look at Sarion and I then turn back to Micah who shrugs them off and smiles back at us.
"Let me show you your new home"
