Sonnet - Three Deaf Girls

There was a time, I met three little girls
These children never talked or asked or heard
Three deaf girls can only see the world
For they can never hear a single bird

'Tis a mystery to me, the peace they find
They only hear each other through their thoughts
The single thought that passes through their mind
A single sound that these three girls were taught

Their happiness leaves loneliness to drown
For happiness through suffering is theirs
They wear their hardships and losses like crowns
Atop their heavy heads and cov'ring hair

The love these girls shared was a mystery
Those girls, their love rewrote our history
