Jayson C. May, player number 13 on the football team. He seemed popular, he talked to most of the girls and the guys in our Chemistry class and he also had some playful banter with the teacher whenever she tried to give us any work.
"Come on, its opening week! Give us a break for once please."
He seemed like such a whiner, like if he didn't get his way with something he would keep bringing it up, until he annoyed someone enough to give him what he wants. It wasn't too bad, he did it in more of a funny way than an annoying way.
As for the other kids in my class the girls were divided into three different groups from what I could tell. First, you had the "popular" girls, they all looked the same with their same fake spray tan they probably got from Planet Fitness, their bleached blonde hair, which was bleached to a point where it looked yellow and of course, their excessive amounts of makeup.
The next group of girls was simply just the average student. They all looked like they had a normal skin tone and didn't cake their faces just for school, they looked average, but in a good way. Some of them didn't seem to talk much, they just sat at their desks quietly copying the notes as Mrs. Prescott flipped through her PowerPoint no matter how much Jayson complained.
The last group was the extremely quiet ones, by "ones" I mean one, hi welcome to Loserville population me. I had no one in the class to talk to, I didn't want to start up a conversation with Jayson because he seemed too wrapped up with talking to everyone else and I didn't want to be a bother to anyone.
"C'mon teach, the new girl is probably so lost! She probably hasn't learned any of this yet." All eyes soon focused on to me as I felt my mouth become dry as I looked around looking for a lifeline, but my eyes fell onto Jayson, he had a stupid smile on his face as I felt my face flush from the embarrassment.
I mean he was right, my old Chemistry teacher hated my class so he only ever handed out packets that we all just googled the answers to. The teachers didn't care enough in my last school to throw powerpoint's together and go through it thoroughly so the students understood, they just briefly taught you the concept, gave you a packet, and then you would be done for the day.
"Skylar? Do you know anything about finding Molar Mass?"
"I remember hearing about it, m-my teacher didn't really teach." I kept on stuttering all day, no matter who the hell I was talking to. It made me seem a lot more afraid than I actually was, but then again, it was just having everyone's eyes on me and I hated being the center of attention.
"See Mrs. Prescott? I think we should have a free period!" The teacher sighed, but she had a smile on her face as if she was used to it, she grabbed her remote and turned the projector off, signalling that the lesson for today was over.
She walked over to Jaysons desk as I slid my phone out of my pocket and turned my VPN on the schools Wi-Fi to see what crazy things were happening back in my good old town of Sterling. I missed the fights of the day that were being hyped up all week long, I missed all of Layla and Callie's drama that they would have for lunch, I missed all of it. I wanted to go back, day one and I have zero friends and Layla's crush goes to this school. Great, just fucking great.
Class was over soon enough, I waited for all the other students to pile out the class before I quickly tried to leave after them.
"Skylar! Can you stay back a moment?" I turned around to see Jayson looking at her computer and writing some stuff down, maybe it was the notes he missed or he just wanted to do the notes in advance so he could goof around in class.
"Thank you for bringing it to my attention that you haven't learned this yet, you should've spoken up and I would've gladly backtracked for you."
She seems like she means well, teachers in Sterling usually expected you to know everything and to be prepared before the time that tests roll around. Teachers here seem to remind you if you have any missing work that you should get handed in so you don't have a zero, with me teachers put in zeros after I was just a day late "essential" points means all of the points.
