Chapter 3

I know stealing is wrong, but I was so hungry and thirsty so I popped into the off license, asked the man where the chilled section and the confectionery section was and while the man wasn't looking I took a bag of crisps, a chocolate bar and two bottles of water and quickly put them in my school bag. I found 20p in my bag and bought a freddo frog, so then it didn't look suspicious. I walked out the shop and realised that I got away with it! I was so hungry that I ate all the crisps and the chocolate bar and drank one bottle of water. So I started to hang around outside McDonald's looking for left over food. I got half a portion of chips and half a cheese burger, then drank a half empty bottle of Tropicana left by the road. By then I was so full I could burst. That kept me going for hours.

When I was walking down the road I felt like I had a Guardian Angel looking over me and in the corner of my eye I saw a folded up £20 note. I approached it and saw that with it was a bag of white powder. I knew perfectly well what it was, so I picked up the bag and shoved it in my pocket, knowing that I might not use it. But I picked it up anyway just in case I wanted to sell it on. I definitely picked up the £20 note and as I did I saw Mum in the corner of my eye and ran up to her as if I hadn't seen her for ages. She had just finished her shift and was walking to the train station. When she saw me she was very surprised and was asking me loads of questions. Why I was here and not at school. I explained the whole story, but not the attack bit.

We got on the train together and was home just before Dad got home from the food shopping. He always does it on a Friday at this time. Mum took my coat from me to hang it up, when she felt something funny in the pocket. In my head I was saying 'Busted!' When Mum took it out she didn't moan, she just went to the bathroom and flushed it down the toilet. When she came back in she told me not to tell anyone, especially not Dad.

When Dad got in from the food shopping we all sat down. Mum had a cup of tea, Dad had a pint of beer and I had a glass of water. I told Mum what happened and she sat there speechless. She didn't know what to say. Dad already knew about it because he picked me up from the police station.
