we sat on the swings
the ones by your house
under the dome of the night sky
the stars twinkling above us
almost as bright as those in your eyes
our legs swung to and fro
and our toes touched the sky
until we ourselves were stars
dancing in the abyss of the universe
I glanced to my side
and saw your silhouette swinging through the darkness
your smile catching the light when it was just right
and the world was in slow motion
every moment was an eternity as I admired you
your shining smile and the crinkles in your eyes
the way you threw your head back as you called to the night
and in that state of perpetuity I would gladly stay
to feel the warmth wash over me against the cold of the night
