Chapter 4

~Veronica's POV~

I watched Dove walk a little down the hall and then I turned and started walking down towards my locker when I spotted Ryan and since Dove and him have History together, second period, without me I may as well talk her up now.

"Hey McCartan!" I said merrily as I walked to Ryan at his locker.

"Hey... Sanchez, right?" he asked.

"The one and only!" I joked, "I'm in your 3rd period class, two rows back, one row over I believe."

"Oh, right!" he laughed, "What's up?"

"Not much, hey, you know my friend Dove right? Blonde, skinny, about yay high." I asked as I held my hand up to about Dove's height.

"Yeah, what about her?"

"She's looking for a date to the Halloween Dance, and I think you'd be a worthy candidate."

"You think I should go with Dove? I don't know, she's pretty but she's not really my type." Ryan said unsurely.

"It's a dance, not a marriage proposal, c'mon you should ask her." I nagged.

"I might, but I gotta get to class, and you should too." He reminded me. I shrugged and checked the time on my phone and I had already taken 8 minutes talking to Ryan and I needed to get back to Dove.

"S***, you're right, I gotta go." I told him. I scampered down the hall and grabbed my books as fast as I could from my locker and dashed down the hall to meet Dove where I told her i would meet her after we got our books from our locker. I was a minute or two late but she still wasn't there when I got there so I waited patiently and awkwardly in the middle of the hall until I saw her walking towards me.

"Hey!" I called out to her and smiled, but she looked out of breath and almost limping towards me.

"Hey" she responded breathlessly.

"You okay?" I asked her, she looked more pale than usual and a bit spooked.

"Yeah, I'm okay." she said as she forced a smile.

"Are you sure?" I asked her, she looked absolutely terrible and I didn't believe she was okay at all.

"Yeah." she assured me.

"Okay..." I sighed. We started walking through the hall past the cafeteria and upstairs to first period but she looked too nervous to even talk to me as we were walking. I've known her long enough to tell that something's obviously up, and I'm not sure what.
