Chapter 6
~Veronica's POV~
"Dove," I whispered. We were in first period and she was seated in the desk in front of me since the desk next to me where she usually sits was already taken by the time we got to the classroom, since we were running a little late. She seemed too focused on the lesson to noticed me, I thought, until I realized she was tapping the pencil in her hand on her desk. She always fidgets in class when she's worrying about something, and I still wanted to know what's up.
"Dove!" I whispered a little louder this time, I could tell she heard me because her pencil stopped tapping as I said it but instead of responding she shrugged it off and folded her hands under her desk. I pulled out my phone to see if she would answer to a text instead.
me: Dove, what's going on with you??
I saw Dove's phone light up in her purse as it does when it gets a text but she ignored it. Ugh. I even tried doing a total fourth-grader move and writing a note to her but she didn't pick that up either. As annoyed as I seem, I'm actually just really nervous for her, and the only reason I'm really nervous is because she usually tells me when something bad happens. What if whatever happened is REALLY bad? What if it's something I did? What if it's something I said? What if it's because of the bus ride in the morning? I mean it seemed like it couldn't be TOO big of a deal because she was only gone for 10 minutes when she was spooked, so it can't be THAT big, right? Hopefully it wasn't something I'd done, was it? My mind raced with these questions for the continuing class time so I could hardly even pay attention to the lesson. When the bell rang Dove ran out of the classroom faster than usual so I didn't have time to talk to her after class because I had to go to Gym and she had History which are on two separate sides of the school, and I was only able to spot her walking out the door.
