Ronan Lynch opened the front door of the Barns and walked inside. He slammed the door behind him waiting for Adam's or Opal to run into the hall, the Barns were silent and still. Ronan frowned, the Hondatoyota was out front and Opal's boots were still there so, they weren't out. Ronan hated being confused, it usually lead to him punching something, so he tried to avoid it at all costs. He was very confused right then to his annoyance.

"Adam?" He called out while walking towards the living room. "Where the fuck are you?"

"In here," came a quiet reply from the living room. Unusual, Ronan thought, where's the smart ass reply.

Ronan stomped into the living room passing by different things from his father's and Ronan's dreams. Most sat stationary and silent where they were, seeming almost normal. Other whistled, flashed, and moved. To a stranger the Barns would seem like a mad inventor's junkyard, but it was just the opposite; a place where imagination and fantasy can be reality.

When Ronan entered the living room he stopped. Adam sat on the couch leaning forward, elbows on knees, and arms wrapped around his shoulders. His gaze was locked on a pile of envelopes.

"Shit, Parish," Ronan said when he read the return addresses. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn State, the other names were obscured. There was a mountain of envelopes in that pile.

"I haven't opened them yet," Adam said in a shaking voice. "I'm scared none of them accepted me. I'm fucking terrified Ronan."

Ronan sat down next to his boyfriend. Only their knees touched, Ronan knew Adam needed space. He sighed, feeling the stress rolling of Adam. "How goddam long have the been here."

"Half an hour."

"Jesus, Adam. I think they are safe to open now." Ronan grabbed the envelope on the top of the pile, Princeton, and ripped open the top of the envelope. The only sound in the house was the ripping of the paper. With bated breath Ronan took out the first paper, he was nervous for Adam. His eyes scanned it, Dear Mr. Parish, We would like to inform you that you have been accepted to the University of Princeton...

Ronan looked over at Adam who was worriedly chewing on his lower lip, hands moving fidgetly. Ronan smiled, a rare occurrence, and Adam looked at him the question written clearly on his face.

"Congratulations asshole, you got in."

A smile broke out on Adam's tan face. Encouraged they both reached for a envelope. Ronan watched as Adam opened the letter, like a kid on christmas day, and skim read the letter. A small smile curled at the corners of Ronan's mouth, he loved seeing Adam happy and unstressed. His eyes drifted over Adam's face memorizing each curve and contour. He sat there just taking in the beautiful person before him.

Adam looked over at Ronan, a smile on his face. "Harvard: accepted," he whispered, as if he couldn't believe it. Harvard was Adam's dream college, his dream had come true.

Ronan wrapped his arms around Adam, enveloping him in a hug. This was uncommon, Ronan wasn't a hugger, but this was an uncommon situation.

Finally, Adam had gotten his reward of years of part time jobs, late night studying, abuse, and low wages. He was going to college.

"I'm proud of you Parish. You deserve this." Ronan whispered and pressed a kiss on Adam's head.

"Thanks, Ronan ." Adam replied as he nestled into Ronan's embrace. Ronan smiled, they really never got moments like this.

After a few moments more Ronan broke the quietness that had enveloped them. "So, do you want to open more of the letter's..." he trailed off when the only response he got was a soft snore, Adam had fallen asleep.

He detangled himself from Adam and lay the sleeping boy down on the couch. Adam's face had a peaceful look on it, all the stress his face usually showed had been wiped away. His brow had no furrow etched in it, the skin was smooth, which was a rare case. His mouth curved up at the corners a small smile on his face, not that Ronan was staring at his lips. Ronan was envious and happy that Adam could sleep without worry, he deserved to be at peace.

Ronan sat down at the end of the couch, Adam's legs draped across his lap, and picked up the envelope he had dropped. This one read Yale in bold lettering, he ripped it open and read the letter. Another  acceptance, so far so good, he thought. Ronan placed this one to the side starting a pile. He grabbed another letter, Penn State, and opened it. This one was a rejection. With a quiet curse, he didn't want to wake Adam, Ronan placed this letter on the other side of him.

He continued the patter, grab letter, open, read, place in acceptance or rejection pile. There were only a few rejection letters, Ronan wondered why anyone would not want Adam as a student, and much more acceptance letters. Soon the two plies were complete, and Ronan leaned back head now resting against the top of the couch.

Ronan glanced over at his sleeping boyfriend. Adam had colleges to choose from, Ronan was happy, their gang was okay, and Opal was good. So, Ronan sat there feeling the sunlight through the windows, listening to Adam's quite snores, and just enjoying the way their lives were.

All was well.
