I was playing in the yard when a moving truck stops at the house from across from mine. My best friend use to live in that house before the accident. Back then I didn't understand what happen but what I know now is that he had been sleepwalking one night and slipped down the stairs. His name was Jorge and I really miss him most days. But that girl, she made my eyes go as big as the moon, my heart pound out my chest and I swear I was drooling. Suddenly my sister Thania popped up in front of me and screamed "Danny gots a girlfriend, Danny gots a girlfriend". Gosh, why she got to do that. She turned around to see the girl who had captured my attention when a boy about 13, same age as my sister, caught her attention shutting her up. Seizing the moment, I got her back. " Thania got a boyfriend!" " Thania got a boyfriend!" She turned so red she looked like the tomatoes in our mom's garden. I burst out laughing and run in side as she snaps out of it and starts to chase me.
"Mom, we have a new neighbor!" I tell my mom.
"Oh really, well I'll whip up some brownies for Thania and you to take over and welcome them to the neighborhood."
I jump up and down I loved my mom's brownies. She makes hers with a secret ingredient, which she says is love. I feel a slap on the back of my head. I whip my head around and see Thania looking a little angry.
"Thania, quick picking on your brother."
Thania opens and closes her mouth nothing coming out. Realizing that it was a losing battle to fight she gave up and said nothing. I was mommy's perfect little angel who could do no wrong. "As soon as the brownies are done and cooled you and Danny will take them over to our new neighbors" Upon hearing this my sister's face lit up and I knew she was thinking about the boy that she saw. She simply smiled and run up to her room. I don't understand why she did that, girls are weird or maybe it was just my sister that was weird. I sat at the table and watched eagerly as my mom was putting the brownies and preparing dinner.
Thirty minutes later the brownies were all done and cooled. "Thania , come downstairs and go with Danny to give the brownies!" My mom had to shout because Thania tended to have her music so loud. Seconds later she had come out and it was obvious that she had changed, fixed up her hair and put on lip gloss. She walked right pass me and grab the pan from my mom and headed to the door. I rushed to get my sandals on and headed to the door, not wanting to miss the chance to introduce myself to the new girl before school. When I catch up to her she is just about to cross the street. We look both ways before walking across. When we got to the door we looked at each other, both unsure who was going to knock. Just as Thania was about to open her mouth the door opened and standing there was HER! She looked so much prettier up close. I was watching as her mouth open and closes when I feel my sister jab her elbow into my side. "Huh?" Oh my gosh, I must have been staring and now she is gonna think I'm weird. She giggled. "His name is Daniel and I'm Thania, we live across the street. My mom made these for you guys to welcome you to the neighborhood." My sister says as she hands her the dish with the brownies. I couldn't wipe my goofy grin off my face. She giggles again and then clears her throat. " My name is Halley. Do you guys want to come inside?" I glanced over at Thania before stepping inside.
