'Friends are our customised walking-sticks who help us walk past a dimension of bad path and bad time'

CHAPTER 3

Aiden's POV

"We missed them. Someone got them before us", said Robin.

"Got them?", I questioned.

"Killed them all. He is always one step ahead of us", he complained.

"I expected it. That's why we are going to follow him from now instead of our targets. He will lead us to the ones we are searching for. But the question is, why is he following them? What does he want from them?" I expressed my thoughts.

"Maybe he is also one of us. He might have been affected by Marcus too. He destroyed many families. But why should we follow him?", he voiced out his thoughts guarding my reaction.

That name left a bitter taste in my mouth. Marcus, the one whose doom I was waiting for.

"He wasn't trying to protect Marcus obviously, since he didn't stop after killing. If he wanted to help Marcus, he would come after us. But he didn't do that. If I am right, he got clues from them, so he could trace the next targets. He goes to the next one and continue the circle. He wants Marcus to know that he is coming for him. It's happening for a while now. So, if I were to get justice for our families, I should catch him before he catches others", I explained.

"Or we can work together with him so we can easily catch Marcus", he offered.

"No. I don't want another person on my way of doing things. It leads to chaos. Moreover, the one who has been killing these people doesn't care about law and order. He doesn't seem like who can work with cops and seeks permission as we do. He is quite dangerous himself", I pointed out.

"That complicate things", he agreed.

"But I have to say I am impressed with him", he added.

"I am not. Stop acting like a fanboy and act more like CEO of Phoenix group of hotels", I advised him.

"Fine", he replied and left my room.

Being the President of chain of one of the famous hotels in the country at the age 27 was not an easy task. It required hard work and time which I was more than glad to give. My work distracted me from terrible memories I wanted to keep in bay. Whenever I was tired, the cruel things done to my family motivated me to become a successful person, so I could get justice for them.

Robin was the only one around me who knew what happened because his family was destroyed by Marcus as well. We went long back. Robin and I were rivals at kinder-garden but he was the only family I had then.

I put my thoughts aside as the elevator pinged.

Hera's POV

I was working on my office going through the files of next trash cleaning when I got his call.

"Hello!", greeted a calm masculine voice from other side.

"Yeah", I responded.

"Seems trash cleaning going good. Does that hotel boy still tail you?", he said.

"Yeah", I replied.

"I expected. See that he doesn't become a headache in the future", he warned me.

"He is not tailing me. He is tailing them. But I will be careful", I told him.

"You are just 26. Too young to get caught in anything serious", he told me making me almost smile.

"You are not old too", I said.

"Don't worry too much about me. If your father knows, he must think we are a couple", I told casually.

"He doesn't talk to me as much as he does to you. Anyway, we are not a couple. Don't get your hopes high", he teased me without a change of tone. But I knew he was teasing me. After years of talking, you would catch on.

"I don't pine my hopes on marrying a man. I pine on killing them", I stated.

"Good. The less the people know you and the less the people you know, the less the hardships you go through", he told me his way of life.

"I agree", I said.

"Marcus is watching. If he does, so does his boss", he informed.

"I know. The hotel boy attracts much attention. Marcus only knows about the hotel boy, not me. Marcus thinks he is doing all this. But his boss knows. Dolos knows.", I told him.

"I know you know that. Be cautious", he warned me once again.

"Okay", I sighed.

"Bye then", he was about to hang up when I interrupted him.

"Orcus?", I called.

"Yeah", he replied.

"Thanks and take care", I told him softly.

"You too", he replied and we hung up the phone. I realized how hung up I was before the call came. He was my friend, a good one on that.
