CHAPTER 6

Althaea's POV

I took care of the discharge papers while Sarah was explaining those two kids they were going to a new home and it was a safe and happy place. We knew our way around these kind of situations well. We were doing this for a long time. The other children's family were here and I didn't want these kids to feel bad. No child should yearn for love. That's why I discharged them earlier. They would be given proper care in the home.

I went to check the other kids one last time before leaving. They were all in a single ward with beds aligned on both sides. That's when I noticed the expression on a little boy's face. I went near him and observed him carefully. He was scared looking at a man standing there.

I decided to investigate further and so opted to stay a little longer. I texted Sarah to leave with the kids and asked the nurse nearby for that little boy's medical reports. I got them immediately considering this is my hospital. I heard Damon talking to Emily outside and he came inside looking for me. Emily was a doctor and she worked for this hospital. I found from the reports that the little boy's name was Fabian and those people are his aunt and uncle and therefore concluded that the boy near that couple was their child. He seemed happy that Fabian was in this situation.

Damon looked curiously at where I was looking and caught the line of my sight. He understood what was happening and looked at me. I nodded my head and pointed my head towards the couple and the exit. He went and told something to one of the nurses there and they all went outside.

I neared Fabian's bed and held the grab bars at the side of his bed.

"Hi Fabian!", I called cheerfully with a big smile.

I leaned down and asked slowly, "How are you?"

He blinked and sunk into the bed further.

"Don't get scared, okay? Do you remember the woman who saved you last night?", I asked and that got his attention.

He nodded his head.

"She is my friend. She told me Fabian is a good boy", I told him and his eyes got bigger.

He balled up the ends of the bed sheet in his little hand and asked in a baby voice, "Really?"

"Yeah, If I am her friend can I also be your friend?", I asked. He looked here and there and nodded his head finally.

I can't help but be happy and sad at the same time that he believes me. Children were naive but they were braver than adults at times. The grown-ups couldn't be brave enough to trust again once they were betrayed by others. We keep on live in the fear that we are going to hurt again that we stop ourselves from taking chances in trust, love and affection even though ten others prove otherwise. We tend to remember only bad things more and relive them with each memory. But the kids forgive and forget easily. That's why in the cases of abused people, it's easy to deal with children than adults and teenagers.

"Fabian, do you not want to go with your aunt and uncle?", I asked and the fear on his eyes spoke loud and clear.

He didn't say anything and I continued slowly.

"Did aunt and uncle hurt you, or your cousin, did he bully you?" He still didn't answer.

"Don't get scared. They can't hurt you anymore. Your friend from yesterday or me won't let them hurt you. See that uncle there", I pointed at Damon, "he will protect us", I told and Damon nodded his head with a big smile.

"Like yesterday?", Fabian asked."Yes, like yesterday", I promised and he waited a few seconds before starting.

"Will they ask sorry too, like yesterday?", he asked and I thought few seconds before replying.
