I did what I could didn't always do what I should and I was misunderstood
August :
I was slanging with my brother today . He was the most respected in the game , everyone knew him and everyone feared him . He didn't play behind his money , his kids or his baby brother which was me . He called me over to him because he needed to speak me with .
" Baby brother how's my sister in law ? " He asked .
" She good , but not so good . " I said .
" Talk to me , what's going on ? " he asked me .
" We're getting evicted and our lights went off , there's no food , basically hard times . " I told him .
He nodded .
" How come you ain't come holla at me Aug and tell me bout all this ? " He said .
" Mel I ain't want you to be worrying about me , you have your own problems . " I said looking at him .
" Aug , you my baby bro I have no choice but to worry bout you . But here imma give you this money and you take care of yo shit . " he said reaching into his pocket for money .
" Mel , I can't take that . I'm outchea grinding just like you , you earned yo shit and I gotta earn mine to . " I said .
" Shut up and take this , you'll make it up to me when you get off these streets one day . " He said handing me the money .
Melvin's dream was to see me do better than him . He always told me that one day I had to get off these streets . Sometimes I wonder if I'd make it to get off the streets . Maybe I will but maybe I won't .
Today I only worked until 5 , so I began walking home . When I got there Lauren and her sister Tazha'nay were sitting on the porch talking . Tazha'nay didn't really like me because she feels I put her sister through hell .
" Hey Tazha'nay " I said waving .
" Mhmm . " she said .
" Why you home so early baby ? " Lauren asked me .
" I didn't work the whole night today . " I answered her .
" Well your mom called , she said you need to call her . " She said .
I pulled out my phone and dialed her number . Wonder what she wants considering we don't have a close relationship ever since she kicked me out her house .
" Hello ? " she answered .
" Yeah Ma , wassup ? " I said .
" August , you so busy slanging drugs you don't even take the time out to call your own fucking mother , but that's okay cause your brother calls every chance he gets ! " she yelled through the phone .
" Ma , what you talking bout I call every chance I get , you just don't answer me . " I said .
" You know what August , you could forget im ya mama . " she said hanging up .
I sighed and put my phone back in my pocket .
" What happen baby ? " Lauren asked me .
" Nothing . ". I said walking into the house .
I went into our bedroom and sat on the bed . I covered my face in frustration . Why can't she understand me . She never understood me . I always try to be the best son but she never let's me . Maybe I should give up .
" August tell me what's wrong . " Lauren said sitting next to me .
" My mother hates me , and all I do is try my best . I know what I'm doing ain't right but it's the only way to make it outchea . " I said .
" Aug baby , she doesn't hate you she just wants to see you do better . She wouldn't wanna see her son lost to these streets . Trust me baby . " she said .
" Baby I just want everyone to understand me . " I said .
" Aug I understand you baby . " she said kissing my cheek .
I put my arm around her waist , and laid my head on her chest . No matter what Lauren was always here , she didn't leave my side unless she knew what was wrong with me .
I heard a knock at the door and I got up to answer it . It was Ms.Elan , she had a basket of stuff in her hand .
" Hey Aug , where's Lauren ? " she asked .
" In the room , why is something wrong ? " I asked .
" No , I just brought some things for the baby , I'll bring the rest over later . " she said .
I grabbed the stuff from her " Thank you so much . " I said .
" You welcome Aug , and keep ya head up . " she said kissing my cheek .
I smiled at her and closed the door . I brought the stuff in the room and began taking it out the basket .
" What's that ? " Lauren asked .
" Baby stuff , Ms.Elan brought it . " I said .
She walked over and took the stuff out . There was things like onesies , booties , baby lotion , baby bath , diapers , pacifiers , bibs , bottles , powder , etc ..
" How sweet of her . " Lauren said smiling .
" I know , just wish my mom would do stuff like this for me . " I sighed .
" Aug baby , it'll come a time . " she said .
I shrugged . Maybe so ...
