August ::
I had just finished working my corner and I began walking home . I knew Lauren was going to be up waiting for me . She was always worried about me . I know what I'm doing ain't so beautiful or godly but I gotta grind to make sure we eating at night .
" Baby i'm home . " I said opening the door .
" Look . " she said slamming a piece of paper against my chest .
I examined the paper carefully ... EVICTION NOTICE ?!
" Baby I paid the rent , I swear I did . " I said .
I seen a tear fall from her eye as should looked into my eyes .
" You couldn't have August , i'm so tired of this . I'm pregnant and I always have to worry about where i'll be sleeping next or if i'll eat or if i'll survive . " she said .
" Lauren i'm trying my best . I'm out here risking my life everyday to make sure we straight , baby this shvt ain't easy worrying about if i'll live to see the next day . " I said .
" That's what scares me August ! I'm scared one day i'll wake up with your son and you won't be here . I'm scared i'll be burrying you in one of these cemetaries . " she said .
I sighed . " Lauren come here . " I said opening my arms .
She fell into my chest and cried . I hate seeing her cry it hurts me . Even though I put her through alot she still stay by my side , she a personal rider .
" August promise me something . " she whispered to me .
" Anything . " I said .
" Promise you'll make it to atleast be here for your son . " she said .
I looked down at her . " I promise . " I said .
She nodded . After a couple minutes of laying bed she drifted off to sleep . I stroked her hair as I thought about all the shvt we been through and soon I drifted off as well .
Lauren ::
I woke up and August was gone . I sighed and went to the bathroom I flicked the light on but nothing came on .I thought to myself , what's today ? I looked at our calendar and we were late on our light bill . I went into the kitchen and sat at the table crying . Everyday it's something new i'm tired of this I really am .
I got up and walked to my next door neighbors house Élan . She was an old lady and she knew what me and August we're going through . She told me come in and sit down as she cooked me a big breakfast .
" Child you gotta eat , you pregnant girl . " she said placing the plate in front of me .
" I know Ms.Elan but it's hard , we barely have money for anything let alone food . " she said .
" You know , you and Aug remind of me and Henry when we were about y'all age . Young , dumb , and blind . I've been knowing August since he was knee high and he got talent , to much to be wasting it on this drug thing he got going on . " she said .
She was right August had a beautiful singing voice , I loved it but he let his pride take the best of him .
" I know Ms.Elan but we'll make it through . " I lied .
" Same thing I was saying when was you , but y'all will open y'all eyes and realize . I'm an old woman and old women don't hold there tongue back so imma tell you how it is . If August doesn't stop he'll either end up dead or in the jail cell and you'll be struggling with little August . " she said .
My eyes got teary everything she was saying was so true .
" Ms.Elan I gotta go . " I said getting up from the table .
" No you don't sit ya ass down and finish that breakfast , these lil words I'm speaking ain't gone hurt you . After you done eating you gone go in that spare bedroom and get you some rest . " she said .
I love Ms.Elan she's always been here through good and bad . She helped me when I thought August and me were just gonna give up . I respect her .
