An English 'light novel'

Note: several elements of the novel (including its title) are inspired by the Tokyo Police Club song Citizens of Tomorrow, a single from their 2006 EP

"A Lesson in Crime"

March 3005

Eight months passed since the day Unit 1-A Chrome 3004 opened his eyes. Aisa saw so much potential, in him. He was like a child at times, but there was something –

Deeper

"I love you"

Aisa laughed. It wasn't as if her unit was capable of such feelings; she didn't expect that he would ever know love.

I'll show you love

"Aisa, what are you doing?"

Richard Haskayne. Aisa's father. He saw the way Aisa held and admired her machine with disgust in his eyes. It wasn't normal.

"I'm tired, that's all"

"For your sake, I hope that's all it is, Aisa. Go to bed!"

Aisa watched her father leave and kissed 1-A, pushing him down, upsetting parts on the table where he was being repaired. Her first kiss, with a machine. Not a human. Not normal.

"I love you"

1-A stirred under her, its hand coming to rest on her back, pulling her closer.

This can't be right

Then, why don't I care?

This, is mine

I deserve, this and

I made, this and

I want, this

I - -

"I love you so much"

"Disgusting"

"F-father?!"

Richard sighed, wishing he hadn't seen what he had. Aisa, his daughter, not only kissing that machine, but.

The look in her eyes tells me she's in love.

"I love you too, Aisa"

That's all I want to hear

"The finale of the

Citizens of Tomorrow"

Minnesota watched passing scenery from a train window, again, dry canola that faded into grass and forest.

Name sat across from her, his eyes closed. Minnesota sighed. It hurt to see him now, unable to see, or speak, and probably in pain –
